Speed Camera detector GPS output/car mount...

I've just got a HP H5550 PDA and am intending using it for a Sat Nav solution and have a couple of questions :

I want to use a speed camera detector (the origin blue b2) to provide the GPS feed to the unit. What do I need to achieve this.. I've searched the forums and there seems to be some question over whether the cable is available yet ? Just wondering if anyone has done it yet before I shell out on the b2. If not - whats a good alternative ?

I'm after a good car mounting kit for the ipaq. Specifically I don't want any vent mounts/window suction type devices. I am ideally after something I can hard wire into the car not disimmilar to a handsfree kit for a mobile - any suggestions ?

The NMEA GPS Output cable/mount for the b2 was delayed, you will need to enquire with Origin if this is now available but without it you are stuck!

As for mounts, the best options are Brodit, Carcomm or TomTom's Carkit. Read the GPS Accessories section for reviews and other solutions.

Hmmm... yeah, lookin at the posts it seems it is just getting delayed permanently! Any ideas if the road angel can provide this feed ?

I'll contact origin anyway and post the response back here when I find out...

Friend at work has a Road Angel and it is wired to his Palm. I'll ask where he got it from but at least they exist.

Think " the player" would be interested in where you got the Road Angel-PDA cable...

Very nice! Just what I'm after to be honest... does the holder also supply a power feed to the PDA so that it will charge as well ?

How do you find the road angel?

Yes, the holder is of the "passthru" variety which charges the iPaq as well as carry the GPS signals. I bought it from Handnav (see right panel). There are a couple of variations to the mount - with or without accomodation for an expansion pack. I went for one which fits an expansion pack, as I have an Emtac GPS jacket as GPS backup. As you can see, I can plug the iPaq straight into the mount with it's clear protective cover when using the Road Angel.

The Road Angel is excellent. I've had it 2 years now. It's portable and directional. The after sales service from Blackspot is excellent too.

The email I received from Origin today said that the NMEA output is supposed to be ready as soon as they get their samples from the Far East.

So it looks like they are still planning on delivering, but when is anybody's guess.

It also seems that they have only designed it to interface with TomTom cradles ...

Right, looks like a Road Angel it is then. Any ideas if the new Road Angel 2 supports the GPS output ? How exactly does it connect to the IPAQ ?

Oh, also - can you cut off the cigarette adapter and hardwire it ?

I have a classic Road Angel, Medion PDA and Holux cable. The RA came with two power cables one curly, one straight, yes you can cut the plug off, and hardwire, certainly the classic as it requires 12V. However, if you get a Holux cable you CANNOT cut the plug off as the adapter supplies 12V to the RA and 5V to the PDA (maybe different voltage for an Ipaq). However, you can get a loose cigar lighter socket from Maplins or elsewhere and hardwire that and then plug in the Holux cable adapter.
