|
|
I tried out the "route demonstrator" feature the other day -- it worked, except that the animation was running at a speed of 20 km per hour. Since the roads had a speed limit of 80kmph, it would have taken up to four times as long to watch the demonstration as to make the actual trip!
Am I missing something here? Is there a way to adjust the speed of the "route demonstrator"? It seems fairly useless if it is limited to less than a real driving speed. I thought its purpose was to quickly show you the route before you actually drive...
Cheers,
Tyler. |

This was a known problem in V2 and unfortunately it isn't adjustable. IIRC you do reach the heady heights of 50kph on motorways!
I think that this will be addressed in V3, as when I reported it to Navman some time ago, the reply came that they were aware of the limitation. _________________ Tim |

The speeds in Route demonstrator are indeed approx half of the original speeds.
Under SP1, the speeds were 60mph on motorways and 30mph on other roads. installation of SP2 reduced these to 31mph and 15mph respectively.
In my experience it made little difference to the demonstration as the ETA's were still accurate.
In fact the service pack was meant to fix ETA's:
Improved ETA Calculations – Originally ETA calculations were based on Highway speeds of 80KM. In Australia for example where long distance travel is much faster, the ETA calculation would sometimes be as much as 20% slower, than real time travel. Calculation components have been modified to calculate more accurate ETA’s.
I suspect that the displayed speeds on Route Demonstrator are not entirely correct. _________________ Ian.

I have found the demonstrator of little use anyway as the route that it takes you on the actual journey never tallies with the demo (even if you try and stick to the demo route) !. It still takes you away from it. It's these inconsistencies that Navman should look at as you expect to be routed in a certain way only to be directed somewhere else to get to your destination. It can cause a lot of confusion if you have never been in the area before. |

To be honest I never use the route demonstrator to 'drive' a route so I can't comment on whether or not the demo matches the actual route taken.
I simply tap in where I want to go and trust the software to get me there.
It has done 99% of the time. There has been the odd occasion when I have decided not to take a road ST has suggested but re-routing has always been fine.
I tend to use the demonstrator to recreate the odd error I have encountered to verify its an actual error or just a glitch.
As for quickly showing the route... simply go to Map view (not 3d) and zoom out and you can quickly see the plotted route without simulating driving it. _________________ Ian.

Showing the planned route beforehand in the 2d map also doesn't tally with the actual routing instructions. |
