For all users of the Jornada 548, and related PDAs, the program now works perfectly, thanks to the efforts of Jose!

I have beta-tested for this processor, and am happy to report that the SH3 version of UKPC2TTN is working as expected, and any users of Jornada PDAs wanting to trial this excellent software should go and download the trial! Trust me on this one, once you've seen how EASY this is to use, you'll never want to go back to TTN Town, Street, House number entry again!

I have found Jose to be very approachable, and exceptionally helpful in getting this working, a big thank you to him for all his efforts from someone who will recommend his products to anyone in need!

Anyone wanting to confirm with me direct can reach me at jonhocking@hotmail.com - please put something like UKPC2TTN in the subject, or my spam filter will ignore the message.

Cheers!

Jon

Given that this solution is based on NSBasic and I think this will be pretty slow. What's your impression?

Surely now Dave or Mikeb could tell me that this is just a nice post. But my impression is just that is very rude, spreading a calification like "pretty slow" without any founding. Much more when is comming from somebody from Pocket GPS Team who is supposed to have some ethical procedure about to test first, calify later.

My rule is simple, first try and test then speak and calify just in case that I know what I'm going to speak about, otherwise I stay quiet.

Benchmark

That's a normal loop test, you have there results and code for NSBasic, Visual Basic and PocketC.

And now some individuals comments from people that did try before to calify it (they are published in web with names, no invented):

Thanks for your explanation but I was expecting to hear from silverwolf what HIS impression is about the speed.

The comment about NSBasic was also made because this means the runtime for the interpreter engine must be installed, costing more memory. Can you actually install everything to storage card?

Sure you will have HIS explanation.

The comment about NSBasic was simply out of place comming from a person that is member of Pocket GPS Team. You can download yourself and try, then you will know too if everything can be installed in storage card or not or what are NSBasic suggestions to their users, if libraries can be stored in storage cards... etc.
Make your opinion by yourself, then come back here to explain us what is it, never by what you were told or you heard.

Apologies for the delay in posting - been working Crying or Very sad

Anyways, to answer your question.

On my 548, start UK2PCTTN, pop up keyboard, enter postcode, click SEARCH, takes less than a second to locate the postcode and grid references, click NAVIGATE, TTN loads up and it's all there.

Hand on Heart, no speed issues at all, and we all know the 548 isn't the speediest of beasts.

That'll teach me to answer before I read ALL the question!! Laughing Out Loud

The whole thing is installed on CF memory (bar the interpreter which goes to system) - at present, the main app and it's associated database are resident on the CF card.

I don't tend to use the 548 for anything other than in the car, 'twas a cheap alternative to a full TT system, but I have no problems with it keeping up with certain POI files with CheckPOInt and with UK2PCTTN to enter the address I want to go to, I find it a lot easier.

Also, worth remembering for anyone with a slower system than mine (IS there a slower system than mine????? Embarassed Laughing ) the postcode entry is done at the start of the journey, and is a one-off - UK2PCTTN is not used on the fly in association with TTN (as Checkpoint is), but is an alternative approach to TTN Town, Street entry system - which I find REALLY SLOW.

Kind Regards

Silverwolf

Hi
Where can get a version of this software for my Jornada.
I have been to the Geopostcode site but I can only see the latest version which is not compiled for the SH3 processor.
I think I need version 2.02.05.

Any help would be appreciated. :D
