|
|
I've recently purchased the Fortuna Clip On Bluetooth.
I'm not really that impressed so far.
I've got an iPaq 3870 and am using Tomtom software.
- Do I HAVE to have the unit on the windscreen to get the best reception?
I have had problems with getting a good signal. It takes several minutes to get full reception from satelites.
- On occasions, the 3870 and the Fortuna refuse to link up via Bluetooth. I will connect up the unit via the Bluetooth manager and they will be connected. But when looking at the connections status icon in the GPS option of Tomtom, there is no connection.
Any help/advice to the above would be appreciated.

Hi
what options have you selected in tomtom gps screen?
have you tried to connect outside of the car?
has your car got a "shielded" windscreen?

NMEA 0183v2 38400.
Bluetooth Serial Port Com 8.
No... I haven't tried connecting outside of the car.
I'll give that a go and see if that makes a difference.
What's a "shielded" windscreen?
If you don't mind me asking...
How long have you had your Fortuna Clip on for (that's if you've got one).
How happy are you so far? _________________ iPaq 3870

I'm in a similar situation to you - just bought a clip-on. Everything was fine until I upgraded the firmware to v2 but thats a different story.
NMEA 0183v2 38400, Bluetooth GPS works for me but it's probably different on different devices - I'm using MS BT stack, I think the iPaqs use Widcomm BT stack. I find that if you put the device into standby the bluetooth turns off and so when coming out of standby you have to turn the bluetooth back on and recheck the checkbox in TomTom's GPS settings. Not sure if thats any help. |

Thanks for the reply.
I've put the thing on the windscreen using the magnetic holder.
AND... all seems fine!
I was getting 10 strong satellite signals or ST mode.
Still testing though.
MS BT stack?
Widcomm BT stack?
What's that?
I don't know if the 'not connecting' problem has gone away. I've noticed that it doesn't like it when it doesn't have a GPS signal (like when I'm trying out indoors). It somehow slows the iPaq down and the bluetooh connection is 'touchy' to say the least.
Overall (after 2 days), I am happy. And it looks sooo cute.

Erm... I was thinking of upgrading. What's the problem? Any pitfalls I should avoid?
Let me know.
Thanks. _________________ iPaq 3870

I've had the clipon for about 4 months now,no real problems at all.Time to fix can be a bit problematic, sometimes in a few seconds, tonight about 10 minutes, but I suspect that that was because I'd switched modes.
I'm using it on a 2210,the tomtom 2.07 drivers didnt work at all, but the 3.03 driver did...now I cant use any other of my gps applications. All the"fixes" didnt fix it,so I guess I'll do a hard reset and start again...boring but better than mowing the lawn!

I got my set-up this week: IPAQ 2210 TTN3 and the Fortuna.
I think if its is fairly new it is probably V2 firmware which means you can run it in XT mode all the time , that is, there is very little lag for driving unike V1.
I have only tried mine a couple of times and it seems fine in XT mode placed in the glovebox.
I have been meaning to try ST mode in the glovebox to see if thats ok. |

The mini 4 page manual has got version 1.2 written on it.
I used it on XT mode... and it seemed to be fine.
I think I'll check what version a bit later though just to make sure. _________________ iPaq 3870

I did a hard reset on my 2210 to start all over again, but this time I installed Mapopolis first, then tomtom gps 2.07, and then tt2...oddly now I can connect to com port 8 and both applications run fine with no lockups or BT dropping.
