I run my TTN3.03/iPaq2210 off a Garmin StreetPilot. Given the right cable it's a great combo. Interestingly, there are 2 or 3 places where I can guarantee the Garmin will shut down (not losing signal - but literally turning itself off) whenever I am in a certain area.

One example is in France: Antibes Route de Grasse intersection with the A8 (just where you need help). There's another in London (Holloway Road heading for Manor House).

What's out there that creates the shutdown command? I thought of airpot beacons or maybe the military. It's location-dependent rather than a hardware problem because even my Garmin GIII behaves this way.

Obviously, the TTN3/iPaq freezes at the location but otherwise stays on OK.

Anyone else had this?

I used to have Garmin's and experienced this with both a GPSIII and StreetPilot Color. I read of others with similar problems and the conclusion was it was the Map Data itself which contained errors or corruption sufficient to shut the devices down.

If I removed MapSource data and just used the base map it would be fine, re-install R+R map data and the shut down ocurred at the same location every time.

I have not experienced any problems with other devices at the same locations.

Thanks for that - interesting... Next time I'm visiting the mother-in-law in Holloway, I'll run just the base map and let you know if it stays on!

Checking the Garmin forums (elsewhere) throws up a similar comment.

Since TTN's maps are superior to the StreetPlanner's, I'll stick with just the computer stats on the SP!
