Hi - Great Site

I am considering buying a system. My need is 2 fold

1 for everyday use in business - I think most systems will help here.

2 for holiday use with a large motorhome and trailer - it is important to be able to avoid motorways and other toll roads on the continent. We also want the system to work in france, italy etc

can anyone suggest a suitable system? as the one my father has purchased from Lidl (Falk Navigator) does not seem to be able to exclude motorways and the continental maps are sold by country @ 100 euros each. Can I buy Europe in one go?

Royboy,

Most of my experience is with Navman.

This certainly provides europe wide maps as as part of the package and does allow you to avoid toll roads. Smile

It does not really avoid motorways. Crying or Very sad You could plan the route and then use the avoid area option to exclude motorways. This would become a bit of a chore though.

The same is true for TomTom. I don't think any of the navigation systems offer 'avoid a particular road classification', but I stand to be corrected

I think Co-pilot 5 will come very close to this feature. I have looked at the manual and screen shots, and it looks like it has a slider to set preferences for different classification of roads. I should be getting my copy of CP5 in a couple of days and will be able to confirm this. Perhaps someone with CP5 will be able to have a look.

Navigon Mobile Navigator 4 certainly has the options to avoid "Motorways" "Toll Roads" (and ferries) - and by default comes with mapping data covering pretty much most of Western Europe (notable exceptions are Ireland - coverage is 'limited' and the Czech Republic & Slovakia where I think it only has major roads coverage.

Toll roads can be avoided in Tomtom by setting a low speed (say -25) in the speed settings for motorways in Properties.

Expect route calculation to take longer by some minutes if you do this. Works though.

Confused Thanks for help so far - much appreciated.

Further questions

1. Is it possible to run sat nav on a laptop rather than PDA? Please excuse my novice status.

2. How much would I expect to pay for a Navigon MN 4 system or Tom Tom if they both work , please include the european option.

Thanks guys
