|

Hi all
I recently bought a Tungsten E, with Kirrio GPS and Viamichelin map programme
I'm really happy with all the kit, especially at the price I got it for, but I have a few questions. This is my first system, so I'm not too sure what to expect
When I have selected my departure and arrival points, and then select the path to be taken, it can take upto 30 minutes to fully load it. Is this normal?
Are there any other map software progs I can use on this PDA?
Thanks in advance. |

That sounds rather a long time. Most units will calculate a 10 mile journey in maybe....10 seconds? _________________ TomTom 6 - SPV M5000 and WM6

Thats what I figured.
I appreciate it was nigh on a 300 mile jopurney that was quite involved, but even shorter journeys take about 10 minutes. This is my only real problem with it, which is why I wondered if any other software was available. It does work fantastically though.
I noticd that it takes longer when I have teh entire UK map loaded onto the card, as opposed to an edited area just for a specific journey.
Would using a larger SD card help? I currently use a 256mb. |

I use Tomtom 3.03 with only a 128mb CF card, with the whole of the UK loaded, so I don't think you should have to worry about the size of the maps or card, there must be some other kind of problem surely?
Unfortunatly I don't know what else will work with your set up. What operating system do you use? _________________ TomTom 6 - SPV M5000 and WM6

i have a t2 and mapsonic with a standard garmin gps. when i last did a route from nottm to manchester is took 39 secs to calculate the route. it is about 150miles.
some things to check.
1. you are running the application from the unit and not a memory card. i am assuming your have the maps on the card.
2. have you exported the information from the pc correctly. delete the map off the card and re-export another set of maps.
3. try loading a small map onto the pda itself and run the route for the furthest you can for that map. then put that map onto your memory card and run it again. this will tell you if the memory card is a good one or if if it faulty.
4.if the memory card and unit is new have you formated it?.
hope this will help. if i can think of anything else i will add later.

Thanks for the replies.
@Matty I have done all of what you said previously. With a small map, it does take seconds on both the PDA memory and the card.
I plotted a difficult course of about 200 miles through b roads etc, and it did it in about 3 minutes. I have done another using the quickest route (m-ways etc) and it is still running after about ten minutes Why there is such a variation I do not know. It seems pretty random.
Is the Software up to much? I keep seeing Tom Tom everywhere, but its not compatible with my handheld. It's making me think about selling it on for another system to be honest. |

all of my routes seem to take about the same time. i did a route from the 2 extremities of what i have on the pda (nr bradfors to lands end 385 miles and it did it in 20 secs.) my map file size is 79meg. i havent got full detail of side roads for the whole area. somet places i just have trunk roads.
have you got a complete map? ie. you have left any gaps between the areas you have downloaded?
if all else fails there is always the navman version for the palm. 4460 smart st. |

Theres no gaps.
I have at the moment a map of mainland UK from the South coast upto Lancashire. It takes up about 210mb
I have found a suppres tab, but it isn't active on the UK for some reason.
I would hazard a guess that it would go some way to sorting my problem from the sound of it.
Do you have any info on the "navman"? |

the t2 has a Texas Instruments OMAP 1510 144mhz (ARM) processor
whilst the e has a Texas Instruments OMAP™ - 126 MHz ARM processor
i dont know if that makes a difference. i wouldnt have thought it would be as you buy the e as part of a gps kit!
what type of memory card do you have? |
