Hi, any thoughts on this? My setup is basically audio-only - Bluetoothed into the car and displaying the cameras as a list (which I rarely look at). I haven't used it much since last autumn except to keep the database updated, but this week I noticed a problem: when it nears a camera, it no longer gives an audible warning, but the display switches to map view. And that's all it does.
I haven't changed anything (not phone, not car, not settings) for years. The phone is a Motorola G7, running Android 11.
Am I missing something? Have I accidentally changed a setting?

If you go to the settings and change the audio alert to something different, does it play a sound?

Also, check in Settings - Advanced settings to see if you've turned on the custom warning volume.

Finally, and possibly the first check to make, when you're connected to Bluetooth on your car stereo do you have the Bluetooth input selected?

Hi MaFt,
Thanks for the reply. I’ve worked through your suggestions, and have even un-installed and & re-installed the app, but still no joy. However, I have some more information about the problem. I’ve dug out an old phone, that I haven’t used for about 4 years and that still had the app installed, and I’ve spent the last couple of weeks comparing the two whenever I could.

It feels to me that, as a short-term fix, I should go back to whatever was the latest app before v2.

The old phone is a Motorola Moto G, running Android 5.1 and CamerAlert v.1.4.0.876). It’s slow, and the database is way out-of-date, but it works exactly as it should, giving audio alerts accurately and reliably, via Bluetooth (they look on the car’s display like an incoming phone call) or via the phone’s own speaker.

My normal phone is a Motorola G7, Android 11, app v2.0, and for years it has worked perfectly, exactly like the Moto G, until sometime over the winter. I’ve not changed anything.

Here are the highlights with V2:
- I tested by changing the audio alert type when Bluetoothed into the car’s built-in connection: the audio only works if the phone is defined to the car as a “Bluetooth Audio Player”. That means I can’t listen the radio or to MP3s. It no longer looks like an incoming phone call.

- Using the phone without a BT connection, it does give an audio warning, but only if the audio output is set to ‘Default’, ‘Device Speaker’ doesn’t work. This, of course, doesn’t mute the radio.

- Regardless of the connection, whenever it approaches a camera it switches the screen from ‘Camera list’ to ‘Map’, and doesn’t switch it back.

- When the app has been idle for a while, perhaps in the background, it comes back in a ‘frozen’ state

How can I find the previous version?

Thanks,
Martin

Yes - the stereo needs to be set to beig Bluetooth audio input. In the same way that you can't listen to a CD unless you have the CD input selected. At present the 'Bluetooth headset' option for the audio does not work. Hoping to get this fixed in a future update but no ETA at present. Same for 'Device speaker'.

See above re the Audio-routing bug.

This has been fixed in the current beta version - hopefully being released soon (or drop me an email and I can add you to the beta test list if you want? (MaFt AT pocketgpsworld DOT com)

Also fixed in the beta. See above.

Google removed it... It won't work on anything newer than Android 10 but you can download it here: https://pocketgpsworld.com/downloads/ca/CamerAlert.Android.876.apk

Thanks for the info, MaFt.

First thing is that I said my Motorola G7 is running Android 11; it’s not, it’s on 10 (I had a brain failure and checked the wrong device – sorry).

So, I’ve sideloaded the v1 apk that you pointed me at. It still doesn’t behave as I think it used to on my phone (e.g. no Bluetooth except as audio player), but I think it may be OK as a stopgap until v2 final is available.
If I set the audio output to ‘default’ (and turn the volume up), and don’t worry about the display format I think it’ll still provide adequate warning. Is there anything else that might stop it warning me properly?

The problem I have is that it has an empty camera database, so I can’t test it properly. My sub ran out on 28th March, and I’m a bit reluctant to renew until I know it’ll do the job for me, and there aren’t many cameras near me. Is there any kind of a test db that I can load?

Cheers, for the help, Martin

If you register the device but DON'T link it to your account then you should get 1 free download.

Hi MaFt,
Sorry, I must be missing something - how do I register the device?
My 'manage cameras' screen only offers 'Link to account' or 'subscribe at...'.

Apert from that, can you see any problems with my intention to stopgap by using it for audio warnings only, and only through the device speaker ("default")?

That means it's already registered. Does it show your username at the top of the Manage Cameras screen?

Also, can you open a support ticket via https://www.pocketgpsworld.com/support.php (scroll to bottom) and send me your device ID then I can try get something sorted for you to test.

To get the device ID you go from the map screen, tap the logo at top right (to get the menu to pop up) then tap on 'About'. The long code uder the version number at the top is the device ID.

Thanks MaFt. When I installed v1, I uninstalled v2 first but I noticed that the settings were carried over. It seems probable that the registration details were also carried over.
I can see the device ID, will post it in a moment.

Cheers, Martin

V1 uses a different method of generating the device ID so they should be different...
