Well you have 30 days to play with and wait it out being hopefull that my predicted date is incorrect, don't let it go longer than the LMG period though or you will miss out on what you can get today which is the v815 map - out of interest what software and map versions are installed to your refurbished device? - Mike |

Yes.
Don't leave it longer than 30 days after PURCHASE though, in case the automatic system fails and you have to get TT customer services to award it to you manually. That is the date they will use, rather then the first time you connect to Home. |

Any idea how it works if you've had a replacement device? Is it from the date of purchase for the original device or something else?
ETA My original Invoice shows 5/2/2009 but i only got the replacement yesterday (23/2/2009) |

I haven't turned the unit on yet, as I thought it affected the LMG.
Is it safe to turn on the 930 as long as not connected to TTHome then? |

apparently not, when you switch the unit on it creates a "birthday file" which will then be sent to tomtom when you do eventually connect to home |

Think this map LMG is getting out of hand. TT will not release dates of up-coming versions. Think they are as paranoid as some of their users (they may not buy until they can get the latest map).
Can we not put together the release dates for the last couple of years.
I have no idea of map updates as I had not used TT until last Nov, before that was some time in 2004 on my Mio168.
e.g.
v7.90 1st jan 08
v7.95 4th april 08 - 94 days since last
v8.10 20th july 08 - 107 days since last
v8.15 10th nov 08 - 113 days since last
etc
Then at least we can get an idea of how long they take between releases. |

I try to keep a list up to date HERE.
It started off by showing which map was supplied with each model, but has now grown to be a more general list of when map updates are released. |

Hopefully Andy_P won't mind this blunt copy and paste to try and work out the release schedule of maps.
v715 Feb 5th 2008
v720 / v805 May 6th 2008
v725 / v810 Sept 4th and 5th 2008
v815 Nov 11 2008
Deduce from this what you may. But it looks from this, that we are a bit behind with last years first release of the year! _________________ Tomtom GO 1005 LIVE

Mmmmm, to me looks like 2 releases in each half of the year, but with no release in the 1st and last month.
Release intervals were irregular.
Therefore we are on course to replicate last year.

Well if you look at the dates they are 3 months apart - Sep being late, but Nov back to schedule. So what's happened to the Feb 09 release. |

You can't determine a 'trend' from only four points.
Was September late, or were other dates early?
Anyway, as has been mentioned previously, TT make no mention of a specific timetable - just that the subscription pays for 4 updates within the year since the scheme's introduction in September last. Using September as the start date, releases should have been December, March, June, September.
It's all pure speculation _________________ Andy

Spoke to TomTom today ref a problem i had with my 740live and the current firmware application for it. I was told a few weeks ago that new application firmware was due out which would correct the problems i had. Since it has not yet appeared and the problem i had reoccurred i phoned back. I was told a new version was due either this week or next and that would include the new maps but the support agent said they were told very little and it was just them reading between the lines.
Just passing on the info. |

Well, if you want to be absolutely sure, wait for new maps before buying one.
Or, if you need one over Easter or something, leave it as late as possible before making your purchase _________________ Andy

I just look on Google Maps to see if my changes have been added.
If not, then either there is no point waiting for the new map, or the new map has not been drafted yet, and it could be a long wait for the next map
I don't think it says anywhere that we will actually get 4 new maps a year?
All i remember seeing is that the cost of the map update service could give you up to 4 new maps a year. |
