You can look on the device itself , in Change preferences, Planning preferences... If it is an IQ Routes model, there is a button to switch IQ routing on or off at the bottom. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-)

Sounds like a bit of a poor show!
Didn't you back up your old device and its contents before returning it?
If so, shouldn't you be able to revert to that version of the map?
Otherwise I would be contacting them to argue the toss on that one, seems a con that they can fob you off with an older map than what you already had.
Fact is, while my 740 was away for repair, I bought a 550 refurbished device (£89) which came with a year's Live services and I asked TomTom to transfer my Map update service to this unit which they happily did, AND to compensate for any inconvenience they upgraded my Western Europe map to Full Europe map. So in effect I have paid around £45 for replacing my 740 with a 550 AND I still have the replacement 740 to sell on eBay which should make more than £45 so I will be in profit and have an upgraded map. Hats off to TomTom!

So not that bad a deal at all then!
Just wonder though if you had the ability to restore the 740 to a more recent map, would its value on eBay be increased?
I would be interested to know how you get on with selling it on eBay, as I will probably put mine on there soon.
I have exchanged messages with TomTom support a few times recently and the last message was to send it in for repair, so if they send me back a different unit with a nice new front on it I may just put it straight on eBay.
I still have all the box, cables and everything including a backup of the “out of the box” condition, the only down side currently is the front of the unit shows some abrasion due to use, although the screen has been underneath a screen protector so should be pristine.
I have taken the plunge with the iPhone app and so far am extremely impressed!
I still need to sort out speed camera warnings and POI’s, but once I do that it will be perfect.
I went for the full Europe map and calculating a very long route say to southern France is done in about 45 seconds compared to much longer on the 740.
The app itself is awesome, it will even let you navigate to contacts from the address book and even photo’s you have taken on the iPhone because each one has been “geo-tagged”!
