I waited on buying a new 1005 until the option of custom POI's was fixed.

However, I did not realise they would dream up an interface to load them which makes you do one at a time.

I also imagined they would have permitted the loading of maps as the unit is now been out over 90 days and thus new maps would be a revenue source for TomTom.

However after getting a glossy email today about new maps it leads me to this message.

Quote:
Map Update Service means you always drive with the latest map.
We improve the quality of our maps continuously with every release – that's four times per year.
With the latest map, you can be sure you're driving the smartest route.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to purchase maps for your device at present.

Kind regards,

TomTom

I must admit I also imagined the magnetic dash mount would have the power connection built in so when the device clicked onto the base it also made the power connection.

Also the power lead goes out of the unit towards the driver rather than passenger. A version for the RHD market would have been nice.

Also no auto power on Sad

Other than the HD Traffic this model does so much more less than my old TomTom which had a 20Meg hard drive, could play music via audio out and remote control.

It's a mess. TT are aware of the level of feeling, but are not being quick fixing the PROMISED stuff, so changing this will be even lower priority.

Again, it's a mess. But I believe they have said they will honour the LMG even after the 90 days has passed.

Does it not on the 1005 then?

The Go1000 certainly has the power going into the mount, so when you click the device into it, the power enters through the multi-pin socket.
I was fairly certain that the 1005 would be the same.

No TomTom has had that for a few years now!
Often requested, totally ignored.

The 1005 uses the same mount as the 1000 so it does have power in the mount, albeit via the separate cable that clicks into the mount. Works for me though?

I will try again, the cable did not seem to be a very firm fit in the dock.

Also was confused by them offering a fixed mount with the power connector built in with audio out.

Not that anyone seems to have such an item.

It should latch loosely into the mount. The magnets on the GO 100x secure it against the base when docked.

It's a cost cutting measure, this solution means they do not have to offer a home sync cable, it does double duty.

The fixed connector offers little advantage if you don't need the Audio Out.

Ah, here we go, another thread for slagging off the new units. There are so many but you dont seem keen on locking conflicting threads.
How surprising.

Les, this thread has been about for months and members are free to post what they please within reason.

This isn't a conflicting thread, it raises valid point. If we lock posts we take flack, if we don't we'd take flack. We can't win with you.

If you don't like the way this site is run then then I'm sorry.

He's not keen on locking threads - period. I would recommend you to scan every thread on this website and come up with a statistic for locked threads, particularly noting how long "conflicting" threads are tolerated - you can actually get away with slagging off the owners on this site! On another site I joined recently, I found they "Moderated" posts completely anonymously, so one of mine which said they had a poor auto-censor was edited to say they have wonderful Moderators! Subsequently (and in less than 48 hours) I wasn't banned, simply my login wouldn't. No explanation or anything. And yet nothing has happened to your post, has it? The bosses have taken the flack and you can do it again tomorrow!

If you don't like the way this site is run, I can PM you the address of the site which didn't like me.

If you need the Brodit style mount for a 1000 but don't need the audio output socket see Here for some ideas - Mike

Considering that you can get a Go 950 Live for £160, I will stick with that for now.

I will probably get a 1000/1005 when they replace them....hang on, that will only be about 3 months though, going by their normal standards!!

i bought a via 120 live with european maps. Huge mistake because its rubbish. NO camera updates available, no map updates available because TT mytomtom webpage doesnt work.
TOMTOM have finally admitted that it may be the end of the month before they have ironed out the glitches in their support for VIA products.
They sent me an email with a reference number to return the thing to halfords for a refund.
I will NEVER buy a tomtom product again Gun Shoot Out
