I have a Tomtom GO300 for which I have just purchased a UK map upgrade and spent several hours before and after unhepfull advice from Tomtom trying to put the the map on the old SD card.
I have the new map and other files in readiness on Home Ver 2.1
My existing map is version 5.44 and I now have a new 2Gb x133 SD card.
This thread seems to cover the topic but in none technical language could someone please give me simple, not too technical instructions. The past 76 years have tended to slow my thinking. Thank you.

OK, I'll make two assumptions ...
1. You know how to use Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer).
2. You have a card reader.
If these are beyond you, stop here and say so before trying to go any further with these instructions.
Assuming you have them ...
Take your original SD card out of the 300 and put it into your card reader.
TomTom Home will probably start up, but ignore it and start Windows Explorer.
Create a new Directory or Folder on your PC called (for example) GO3002008-01-22.
Go to the SD card drive , probably having the name TomTom GO. With the drive highlighted, click on any folder or file in it,
then top menu, click Edit, then Select All.
Top menu again, Click Edit, then Copy.
Go to the new directory/folder you created and click on it.
Top Menu, click Edit, then Paste.
When the movements stop, you have now created a copy of the SD card on your PC.
Right Click (not Left Click, Right click) on the SD card drive letter and select Eject, then take the SD card out.
Put your new SD card into the reader.
Go back to the new directory/folder, where you can see all the stuff you copied off your previous SD card. Click on any one of those folders/files.
Top Menu click Edit ... Select All.
Top menu again, click Edit ... Copy.
Go back to your new SD card drive and click to highlight it
Top Menu click Edit ... Paste.
When it all stops moving, you have created a copy of your original SD card on the nice new one.
Right Click (not Left click) and choose Eject. Then take the new card out.
TEST - Put the new card into the GO 300, switch on and check it works.
When you've proved it works, connect the GO to the PC and update the map through TomTom Home.
After you have updated, you may have two maps on the GO, in which case you need to switch maps to use the new one. If you DO have two maps, you may not have your settings (Home address, Favourites, POIs, Recent destinations). If so, come back for directions on how to get them back (they are not lost and gone forever).
Go for it and let us know how you get on, please. _________________ Dennis
Hi Dennis, Thank you very much for your reply which is understood, also no problems with the card reader. I will be back to you by Thursday to let you know how I get on.
Regards, Malcolm.

Hold on... you both might have missed something.
Bear with us Andy - the guy's even older than me and I didn't think anybody that old and warm still existed around here. Gives me some small grounds for optimism in seeing out my lifetime membership! _________________ Dennis
I copied the version 5.44 to the new 2Gb SD and from Tomtom home ver2.1 upgraded from from 5.44 to version 6.52. As Andy predicted more files were available which when copied offered me a further map upgrade and I have now progressed to version 7.162.
The system works well and a security copy has been copied to the Hard Drive.
Oh well some are older, and some are younger and if you live long enough you will be as old as me
Earlier I checked my pulse at 59 B.P.M., however after a fast 45 mile bike ride my pulse and temperature did increase. Used to run up to 70 miles per week and many marathons etc., but now content with hill walking, smooth water kayaking, kart racing, rowing, swimming and line dancing.
One more question. I am going to buy satnavs for our two sons and I am thinking of Tomtom. Am I likely to find anything better?
My sincere thanks for the time and trouble in providing very complete guidance for the upgrade to version 7.162.

Well done with the upgrade as quite a few have fell over when trying this, it just takes a little time but worth it in the end.
Depending upon what your sons want from the nav unit I would look at the One XL from TomTom, this is a better unit than the One Third Edition which has limited functionality, although it does (as all TT One devices) lack hands free connectivity for the mobile phone. I think the TomTom system is still the best in terms of ease of use (when in the car) and something the other manufacturers need to catch up with - Mike
