i know they are expensive but the Brodit car mounts are designed to attach to the car without causing any damage. The 3 I've used for various cars have actually been quite well designed.
Look up your vehicle at dsldevelopments and see if they have your vehicle covered.
I think I would be a bit concerned that a sticky pad might fall off after a while with the weight of a SatNav unit. _________________ Satnav:

"Look up your vehicle at dsldevelopments and see if they have your vehicle covered. "
I spoke to the boss yesterday.
My car is a Bentley. There are no photos, only an old CAD drawing, as to how it would fit. He does not have the ProClip for a Bentley in stock - in fact it would have to be specially made.
I'd willingly go down that route - but it's not a car they have much experience of as far as I can tell.
But thanks for the suggestion.
I tried the ventilator clip solution but the Garmin vibrated so much that it was also a non-starter.
I am really restricted to suction pads (not stick pads) on the walnut. I am quite prepared to pay over the odds for a smaller but stronger one and that would enable me to use some the area higher up on the dashboard.
Hence my question.....
But thanks for yours and all the other suggestions.

Wilton,
The dashboard top on the Turbo R goes a long way back. Maybe almost two feet !!
You can't put something like the 1490 on a sucker close to the windscreen as there is that thick power cable. If you got an extension rod to bring the 1490 nearer it would bounce up and down and look silly.
I even got round to thinking about that bean bag system (I have enough room for a bean sack!!) but the one I had for my original Street Pilot was so ugly.
That site you pointed me to has some nice kit. Snag is I can't get them to tell me the diameter of the suction caps by email - and they don't publish a phone number.

I put mine low on the RHS of the windscreen next to the roof support and rest the extension rod (or the end of the fitting) on the top of the dash so it doesnt bounce about. I agree it may not suit the interior aesthetics !!
Anyway i thought those Bentleys were supposed to have a smooth ride !! |

Thanks Wilton.
"I put mine low on the RHS of the windscreen next to the roof support"
And where does the power cable run?
My cigarette ligher is in the horizontal centre console - about where the gear stick would be on a manual car. I'd be reluctant to take the cable all that way across the car.
These guys have some great kit:-

They even have mounts that are (a) transparent and also (b) ones with two smaller suckers. It is a shame their importers in the UK ignore emails. I'll email the HQ in a minute.

i run the cable under the steering column and up the other side, may need a power socket extender (which would be narrower than the nuvi cable) to take the socket to under / behind the dash ..... |

Thanks Wilton,
I'll have a look to see if it can be done without being unsightly.
Do you have a moment to give me a URL on the sort of extender I could use, please?

For an extension, I bought one like this.
I replaced its plug with two spade connectors, to connect to the inside terminals of the cigarette lighter.
I threaded the lead out the back of the centre console, under the steering column, and through a hole into a pocket in the lower fascia. I put plenty of tape and plastic plumbing pipe over the cable where it might chafe.
Then I ran my device's power cable up the side of the fascia, secured by plastic self-adhesive brake-pipe clips, so it's hidden when the door is shut.
Now I just plug my device's power cable into the new socket under the dash.
(I superglued the band of the socket's lid, to stop it sliding off).
Tidy!!

I see that an EDIT does not alter the date of the message so I am using this to bump it up in case people do not spot it now contains quite a lot of fresh info.
