All right, let's crank it up a notch. So far we have only allowed one network location fix (assuming that would kick start the GPS fix). The next build will use all network location fixes, regardless of accuracy (again, as an option). Let's see if that helps any. I am not convinced - you may as well just see wild position jumps...
If anyone has material information as to the true cause of the issue (and the proper fix as deployed by the stock porgrams) then please let us know. _________________ Lutz

I have a ZTE Blade (running the standard android 2.1 that came on it). It never gets a sat lock the first time I use CamerAlert, it say starting GPS, even though I have started it before opening CA, but the GPS icon never shows.
But if I exit the program and then use Task Killer, then restart CA it gets a fix instantly after saying starting GPS and the GPS icon appears.
All my other nav programs etc work okay. |

Any progress on this Samsung Galaxy Portal - failure to lock on issue? |

Not really. We get conflicting messages about the feature working/not working, and we don't have direct access to a Spica handset to verify it ourselves. _________________ Lutz

Hi Guys,
If I can comment without sounding like an arrogant know-it-all, I am a retired senior IT professional, ex-Head of IT Systems & Services, with 45 years in IT.
Obviously I do not have your technical knowledge of GPS systems but I have many years of trouble shooting systems, and I can assure you that it does not work on the Samsung Galaxy Portal in the UK.
I also have it on my Dell 'Streak' 5" Tablet and that works fine.
I have not seen any reports of it working OK on this forum, where do the positive reports come from? I would be very interested in communicating with anyone who claims to have the software working on this particular phone.
You previously said -

Has that been done? |

What is the 'Label' of the option? (in Advanced Settings under miscellaneous I assume?)
I already have "Use network location" ticked. |

that's the one. From what I understand this allows you to get ONE fix, but it will not deliver additional fixes when you start moving. _________________ Lutz

So are you saying that the function of this switch has not changed since it was first introduced as at introduction it only provided an initial fix?
If that is correct then this amendment -
All right, let's crank it up a notch. So far we have only allowed one network location fix (assuming that would kick start the GPS fix). The next build will use all network location fixes, regardless of accuracy (again, as an option). Let's see if that helps any.
Has not yet been applied.
Or am I misunderstanding you? |

just a little bit...
We THOUGHT that network location fix would help. But it doesn't seem to. We were told by users that after applying this setting they were getting GPS fixes. However it seems to be the case that these fixes were ONE TIME only, and a true solution is still waiting to be discovered. _________________ Lutz

Is this still an issue? I've got a ZTE Blade and it works fine? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Guys,
Good News (I think, and hope)
Just been out in the car with Samsung Galaxy Portal and Cameralert fully up-to-date -
AND IT IS WORKING OK!
Now that I know that it appears to be OK I will turn it on every time that I go out in the car and report back again in a couple of weeks to confirm whether this was a 'one off' or whether it is now definitely cured. |

We have some changes specifically for the Samsung Spica which we are currently testing. Results are looking good so far. More news next week. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Hi again Guys,
Bad News I am afraid -
It continued to work fine until your latest update!
Now I get no camera icon on the screen whatsoever, it does not locate me on the map and there is no GPS icon on the top taskbar!
How can I role back to the previous working version? |

Go to the advanced settings and check the "Alternative GPS start".
Since the issue only affects a few devices we made it optional, with the default using the regular method. _________________ Lutz
