On the TomTom, you only get one symbol for each POI category.

Therefore if you have a category for "Shell petrol stations" it can have the Shell Logo.

But if you have a combined "petrol stations" category it can only have one logo for ALL the entries. That can be the default "petrol pump" icon or it can be anything else you like (it COULD even be the Shell logo if you wanted), but there is no way to differentiate between different brands and give them their own logo if they are within a single POI file.

Anybody who wants to know, a Texaco station in Bristol at approx 51.44603, -2.58322 has recently been demolished and now replaced by a Shell forecourt, complete with super hotrod V-Power. Yeah! Bouncing I have reported it via the POI submissions page.

How do you get the Shell symbol to show up on a tomtom? The POI of Shell garages I downloaded from the POI section on here worked fine but is outdated and the list of stations I downloaded from the above link has up to date sites but the shell symbol won't display?

You need a the Shell logo to be stored in a .bmp file of size 24 x 24, with the same name as the .ov2 containing the POIs. (e.g Shell.ov2, Shell.bmp).

Earlier, although limited, investigation had indicated that the PGPSW version was more accurate than Shell's own POI file. If you have discovered inconsistencies, can you please Submit updates to the PGPSW site to help keep it accurate?

Thanks for the help. I have changed the name of the file to match that of the bmp and this has worked.

One of the filling stations local to me has changed over to a BP garage so I shall have a go at submitting an update.

Strewth! Do you eat lightning? That was quick AND I also see you've added the "new" one I submitted on St Philips Causeway (which has been there for ages actually). Impressive reactions you've got.

It's in the list. Wink

It's good to see someone using the Comments Box. Idea

The only point I would raise with the both of you is that you can change the sub-category, with the Drop Down List, to the new category. It just saves me another job .... and I might miss it. Shocked

I'm afraid I'm a total novice at POIs Richard - this must have been about my sixth submission compared with 17 zillion cameras, so I really don't know what I'm doing. It took me several attempts to add the new one - it rejected several early efforts because I didn't include its name because I didn't know it. Fooled the system by calling it "Not Known"!

it is probably Shell in disguise,

They are Shell distributors. I believe, though can't be sure, that they are still independent.

Sorry Rob, the intention was to say that because at this time there is no Gleaner icon or listing, they were submitted as Independent to get them placed on the mapping, particularly as 5 were totally new to the database having been plotted on the Isle of Mull. I will see if someone can get me a photo of the brand logo and submit for inclusion if/when received.

I have enclosed a link to the Gleaner web site from which you should be able to gain an image for an icon.
