We now know the cause so progress of sorts! It appears to be the system we use to create the .zip files 'on the fly'. The header info is decoded fine using Winzip or XP's built-in .zip decoders but the MAC flavours such as StuffIt etc don't like it.
We're now looking at how we get around this.
If anyone is struggling drop me an email with your user name and the file type you need and I'll reply with the file by return. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Why should we pay for something that you were giving away for free before? |

You don't have to pay. You are welcome to stop using it if you feel £2 is too much.
Or if you contributed camera locations prior to our announcement 1 Jan 06 then you qualify for free lifetime membership as you do if you had donated via PayPal.
The database doesn't magically create itself. When we started it took a few hours each week to produce. Now it's a full time job checking the data, sifting through for errors, duplicates etc and then preparing and releasing the updates in a dozen formats with more every month.
We feel (and so do the many users who now subscribe) that our subscription fee is good value for the database and access to subscriber only competitions and retailer discounts. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I've just tried to download the March release and it failed, even though I've got 34 days left on my subscription. The same problem as I experienced previously - it just downloaded a spurious text file called 'downloadcameras' of unknown format.
I take it that the problem is still not fixed? |

Should be a new "Announcement" topic here too, though? |

All links quoting free camera database file - sign up etc.
When you sign up you then ask for money.
No problems with paying 2 quid really but you should be straight from the start.... |

Hi Lee,
Welcome to the forums!
Where can you see the links quoting 'free camera database file' please?
We announce the charge everywhere as far as we know including the homepage, the subscription page, newsletters, forums etc.
We'll obviously remove any offending link straight away. _________________ Robert Brady |

OK... sorry for this, have answered my own problem....
It would appear that the files/downloads are NOT liked by the Macs Safari browser but work fine in FIREFOX
Now that I have GOT the files I will be able to read the install info.
Any help on the Palm T5 would still be appreciated though!
Sorry again! |
