Regarding claims and renewals, I stopped claiming for windscreens with my previous vehicle (and I've now had FOUR on this latest one, 18 months old!!!) because the excess meant I still had to pay half and being vat registered I had to pay the full vat and I just couldn't be bothered with the hassle, BUT mostly because I found a windscreen guy who does the exact same windscreens for £100 less than the insurance-approved national companies (and with four on this van since August 2010, he knows my address and vehicle make/model, so I only need to ring him and leave a voicemail saying "It's Dennis, I need another windscreen"). And my last Fully Comp insurance renewal, with seven years NCB, was just over £1,000!

I agree average speed cameras are the proper way to go about it. BUT they need to make a HUGE publicity effort about them, so that all drivers understand what average speed check means - I'm sure I'm not the only one to be blasted by the slipstream of some fool who thinks he only has to slow down as he passes the batman pole. I agree - but the real way is to have a massive publicity campaign to say that average cameras are in operation, but not where they are - and then to hide the cameras in street furniture. Let's face it, people speed generally because they think they'll get away with it - if they don't know where the cameras are because they are concealed, they are going to be a lot more careful.
