Here are a couple of other ideas for mount the x20/ x30 using the Easy Port and then showing how to use the existing mount in a slightly different way in the car, the pictures might give you a few ideas:
To start with a Brodit ProClip to suit your car and Brodit "Ball" intended for use with the TomTom Car Kit, in addition the TomTom Easy Port x20/ x30 mount.
Lever out the two rubber bungs from the top of the mount.
Remove the two small screws and the hinge top will come off letting the mount come to bits very easily
Attach the TomTom Easy Port device holder to the Brodit Ball
Clip the Pro-Clip complete with the Easy Port in the car
This with the device sat low
This is with the device sat high
Now for the standard mount as supplied with the device:
Brodit Ball attached to a Pro-Clip to suit the car and the standard x20/ x30 mount
Lever out the center disk from the TomTom mount, there is a small notch in to which you can insert a small screwdriver to flick the center cap out.
This reveals the four screws which need to be removed
The mount swivel can now be taken appart by simply pulling the two sections surrounding the ball off.
Re-assembly on to the Brodit ball is the reverse of how it came appart, start by pushing the rear retaining ring over the ball, its a tight fit but does go over
Push the front part of the swivil ball retainer back in to position and replace the four screws
Refit the center cap which simply pushes back in to cover the screws
Put the completed assembly in the car
Finally with the device attached

I've got the 530 cracking device, refurbed from TomTom but looks brand new, updated the navcore using x40 emulation with my purchased map. Works flawlessly, also PGW speedcam database works a treat. |

According to TTs website Refurbished units sold via the Outlet store do not get the map guarantee.
'Note: The latest map guarantee does not apply to the following products:
maps that came preinstalled on a memory card
downloadable maps purchased via TomTom HOME or our website
refurbished navigation devices purchased via the TomTom Outlet Store'
It's at the bottom of this page.

I have emailed support to confirm this? No reply as yet.
If it has the latest v850.xxxx then all would be ok. |

Latest Map Guarantee with Refurbs has had quite a bit of discussion here. It seems to be a bit of a lottery - I got it with my Refurb GO 520 from TotalPDA and so have a lot of other people. Others report they didn't. _________________ Dennis

I got LMG with my new refurb but I wrote to TT before buying and said that if it wasn't offered i would buy from an alternative manufacturer (ie Garmin, Navigon, etc.) who are still providing support for proximity warnings for 3rd party POI's. Suffice to say, TT said that they would make LMG available on my account and they kept to their word. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

Hi Pocketgps,
I see you have used a 'bean bag' type mount to hold your Sat Nag.
My car is changed on a regular basis and I need a mount that is easily removed without leaving any marks etc, so was toying with the idea of getting a 'bean bag'.
As I've never actually seen one in use I was wondering how solid is their location when left on the dashboard? Do they ever slide around etc ?
What has been (bean?) your experience ?
Thanks for any advice you can offer. _________________ If it ain't broke, yer not 'ittin it 'ard enough.... |

I have experience of 5 different types of beanbag and all have been very stable. Some time ago I had a long exchange on another forum with a poster who was looking for a solid BB. I advocated the donut shaped one as giving the maximum counterbalance weight, he liked the Arkon horse-shoe shaped one. In the end we both agreed the Gilsson four sided cushion was the most versatile. It could cope with odd shaped dashboards, was a good counterbalance weight, and was very stable. I've used it ever since, but you can't really go wrong whichever you choose - unless you intend a bit of rallying? _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

Further to my post on Monday 19th July 2010 about the TT Map Guarantee on their referbished units. I have received an email back from TT support and this is their reply.....
The reference number for your query is 100xxx-001xxx.
Thank you for your email. My name is Suzanne in TomTom Customer Care.
I would like to confirm that the Refurbished TomToms do not come with the latest version 8.50 maps, or the Latest Map Guarantee.
As they are refurbished models, the map version installed is in relation to the the date when the units were originally manufactured. In the case of both the XL 30, and the Go 530, 730, and 930 the date for the maps installed on these units will be 2008.
Please do not hesitate to let me know if you require any further assistance and I will be more than happy to help.
With Kind Regards
Suzanne T

I use it regularly in 3 different cars without any problems.
Corolla TSport, Volvo C30 and BMW 3 Series.
Only problem now is the standard GO 530 screen mount is to short to use with the bean bag. I have ordered a TT EasyPort mount to try. Will post back when it arrives |

I tried calling today but after 15 minutes on hold gave up.
I then sent another reply email to TT CS, stating that forum users have last week ordered Referbished 530's and 730's from them and have been given a free update to the latest 850.xxxx map.
This is the second reply.....
Thank you for your reply.
However, the Latest Map Guarantee is not available for any refurbished TomTom devices.
Please do not hesitate to let me know if you require any further assistance and I will be more than happy to help.

Hi Pocketgps
Well the "Refurbished" 530 has arrived. To be honest, it looks like a brand new unit. I have a suspision that these are not refurbished units, I think they could just be old stock that they are trying to dispose of.
Anyway, I have literally just unpacked it and hooked it up to my PC with a view to backing everything up and then letting you know what happened as regards the latest map guarantee.
However.... I am running Vista 64 with McAfee security and McAfee has just flagged up a Trojan on the memory in the TT !
Trojan W32/Rimecud Elena.exe
McAfee has just attemted to quarantine the infection ! I just hope this hasn't screwed anything up.
Now, I suspect that this is simply a false alarm. But can anyone here advise ? _________________ If it ain't broke, yer not 'ittin it 'ard enough.... |

I would personally would be interested if you get the free map update service, as they have told me twice that these referebs do not. Maybe they are saying this and the maps are from 2008 as if you are correct, then they could be old unused 'new' stock.
Apparently in your case they have given you a Free extra piece of software ! |
