As a long distance LGV driver, I come across a lot of roadworks on our motorways, and I guess that I'm in as good a place as anyone to help clean up the tSPECS data. I shall be doing my best to keep up with them.

How many specs cameras have you submitted? One person cannot possibly keep up with them. We have a goodly number of Verifiers who keep up with an awful lot of them. We do have difficulty with some, for example on funny little link roads in the motorway system like the M42/M6 - some cameras get onto the link road and we don't travel on that short link very often.

I too take exception to the suggestion that our database is inaccurate. I have recently been up and down M5, M6, M42, M1 up to Newcastle, M4 between London and Carmarthen and NOT A SINGLE specs camera was inaccurate, except for unconfirmed ones which I found to be inaccurate, but which you wouldn't have seen because they don't get into the database until they are verified. Yesterday I checked seven submissions to remove specs cameras on the M1, but every submission was wrong - the cameras were still there.

As for blindingly obvious - sure, the roadworks are, but the specs cameras may NOT be - in my motorway travels these days I am finding that more and more specs cameras are not illuminated like they used to be when first introduced. In the dark, they can be very hard to spot indeed.

Eyebeear, Although it may not be possible to have the tSPECS files supplied as a separate file you do not need to extract them from the download if you don't want to.

How does that work? The tSPECS are in the SPECS file. So he'd have to do without ALL SPECS or is that what you meant?

Darren, I skulked off in shame with my head hung low, searched for tSPECS on the forums to see what it was all about and hopefully have resurfaced with a possible solution for Eyebeear.

Eyebeear,
How much do the tSpecs annoy you? The following is an untried solution (I don't have an iGo SatNav to test it on), it may seem like a lot of work but I reckon I could get it down to about 5 minutes if I had to do it regularly and the tSpecs upset me enough.

Download the iGo "Consolidated By Type" database (I hope this is the Set you use. If it isn't, humour me), Unzip it and open the pocketgps_uk_specs.txt files in a SPEADSHEET. Highlight all ROWS from Row3 to the last row and delete everything highlighted. This leaves you the headings on the first row and a sample entry on the second row. Save the file.

Next, Download and unZip the CoPilot 7 Consolidated by type database (The first alternative I found on the list that resembles to the iGo format. They are .csv files, but we'll sort that out later). Delete all files except the pocketgps_uk_specs.csv and open this as a separate SPREADSHEET.

From the CoPilot files, Sort the spreadsheet data on "Column A (Camera)" remembering to highlight all columns from "A" to "F" at the same time - then delete all rows containing the phrase "tSPECS". ADD 4 new, empty rows to the top of this SpeadSheet and Delete Column "A".

Copy the top 2 rows from the iGo Spreadsheet and paste into the top two rows of the CoPilot Spreadsheet. Save this SpreadSheet as pocketgps_uk_specs.csv, overwriting the original. Now, Cut, Paste and generally Jiggle the CoPilot Data into the correct COLUMNS as per the top Row iGo headings and Using the 2nd row data as an example. You will probably have to delete some data and re-value some others but it should be easy with the "Fill" or "Replace" tools. Save.

Delete Rows 2 to 5 inclusive. (The iGo sample data, 3 empty Rows and the coPilot Title row). Save to your desktop and close the Spreadsheet.

Find this new pocketgps_uk_specs.csv on your desktop and rename it by changing the .csv suffix into a .txt suffix to become pocketgps_uk_specs.txt. Pop this file into your original unzipped iGo download overwriting the original. Upload the database onto your SatNav as usual.

Fingers crossed it'll work, but remember not to speed in the roadworks!

EDIT. If it doesn't work try following the above procedure but copy the CoPilot data into the iGo spreadsheet not the other way around as I have described it. Thinking about it, this may be the way to try first.

No need to skulk of in shame, if I did that every time I made a mistake I'd never return Laughing

Thanks though for taking the time to offer this solution!

I don't know how well the Cazador solution works, but may I make a small point?

The camera submission page does NOT offer a distinction between Specs and T-Specs - all cameras are submitted as Specs. Some TSpecs cameras are not identified as such in the main database - I think, but not sure, it relies on A) reports that they are there for roadworks and B) manual/visual check of data submissions for this factor - if it isn't reported that they are temporary for roadworks, or if our DB Admin doesn't notice it, they'll be in the DB as just Specs.
