There are several PDFs on Kenwood website telling you to subscribe here and use the PGPSW database!!
From their FAQ page if you click on the question
How to upload safety camera’s via CD onto my DNX5220, DNX5240, DNX5220BT, DNX5240BT?
You are told to "Click to find out how to download safety camera’s via CD for the above-mentioned units." When you do you get the following PDF Click Here
Seems Garmin and Kewood haven't bothered to provide a facility to update the Garmin Cyclops database. |

I think its time to chuck the towel in and give in, i have tried everything i can think of thought i had found the answer when the instructions you give to me said you must have satnav running but when i put disc in nothing is coming up as though its not reading disc.
Even tried putting the information on a memery stick and using the USB cable seeing if it would take it that way but nothing.
The POI website i have downloaded from is
http://garminpoi.co.uk
has anyone else used these as i so much want to subscribe here and get everything but feel it is pointless if i cant load them on my satnav.

I feel your pain. You will see much confusion from others on the installation of POIs to Kenwood. The process is far from clear.
Can I just check that you have extracted your POIs to a folder on your PC and you are using POILoader to create the files that you then copy to a CD-R?
As best we can understand the process, you should end up with a CD that has the following:
x:\garmin\poi\poi.gpi (where X: is the drive letter of your CD-R)
Do you have this? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hang on!
I thought you were asking for help with the Garmin Speed Camera database!
That website is run by MaFt, who is the Speed Camera Database Admin here, at PGPSW.
So do you want to get POIs loaded on the unit? if so, that's a bit different to what we've been trying to do so far......
In order to load them onto the Kenwood unit you need to download the POIs file and extract them to a folder. Make sure you have all the CSV and BMP files in one folder and use POILoader to make the GPI file on your PC. Make sure it is called POI.GPI.
Then make a folder called garmin and make another folder inside that called poi. Put the POI.GPI file inside the poi folder so the structure is
x:\garmin\poi\poi.gpi
Burn this to a CD.
Switch the unit on and select NAV mode. Insert the CD and wait.
Use good quality media from a reputable brand - No cheap and cheerful CDs. Also make sure you Finalise the CD (Or select an option NOT to be able to add files to the disc at a later date)
See if this works...
If that doesn't work try
x:\garmin\poi.gpi
as the Kenwood PDF i linked to above mentions the garmin folder but not the poi one... In fact it might be worth reading that PDF anyway. the last half of the second page is useful. |

Should your device be capable of reading .mp3 files? If yes then the issue has to be either the discs themselves or something wrong in the burning process? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Does it play an ordinary Audio CD?
Kenwood provides this guide for playing mp3s. Make sure you had the disk in the right format before you decide i wouldn't play mp3s. Also i can't see the 5240BT listed as mp3 capable, although other review sites do. |

I can't do that and i don't suspect it'll help as i think the problem is getting the data off the CD and onto the unit and not the creation of the POI.GPI file. If you are using POILoader to generate the POI.GPI file then you can't be doing anything wrong.
Have you tried using the folders suggested above?
Have you made sure the folder names are lower case?
Can you answer my question from above?
