* Using handsfree, no sound when talking
* No sound on instructions
* Crash on turning unit off (hung for a long time on the 'burglar' screen until the power button was hit again)
And then I ran into the 'cannot store map settings' error later on
Bizarro, but at least there are vaguely reproducible steps now. |
I am on my second 730T, I took one back to John Lewis for a replacement because of the same error.
All was fine for a week then I had the same symptoms yesterday.
I have two phones conected my personal Motorolla Z8 and company Nokia3109.
The first unit had the problem on both phones.
Time to get on to Tomtom about this issue. |

Its a Nokia 6230i...
Is this where I now find out that that particular phone is not supported?!
EDIT: Actually, I do know that according to the TOMTOM compatibility list it IS supported... |

Mike
Motorola V3 and a Nokia 6300.
It has happened with both phones on the 920 and with the V3 on the 720 and 520 before that.

So what we have here is a long-term software problem that the user can work around using chkdsk /f, but may make the unit unusable for non tech-savvy users.
Does anyone have any contact details for TomTom (that are actually read) where this bug can be reported? |

Normal route, via the link at the bottom of one of their existing support questions/answers.
If you don't know how to find it, strangely enough, only yesterday I wrote some instructions on how to (eventually) get to that link in another forum. Have a look HERE
The trick seems to be to give it a title like "bug report" and then launch into some complicated-looking technical description. This frightens the first line support bods, and they bump it up to level 2 quick! |

Thanks Andy - I have submitted the report below so we'll see if there's any movement...
BUG REPORT
Summary: Crash related to hands-free and TMC use that corrupts \gns\gnsdata, makes unit unstable.
Unrelated to particular type of phone used, has been seen on 730 930 520 720 - more info on http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=68250&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
Bug:
- On attempting to use hands-free while navigating, occasionally there is no sound
- Even after cancelling the call, there is no sound for navigation instructions
- The unit hangs on attempting to shut down when pressing the power button
- This seems to cause the later problems:
- On later use, it hangs on navigating if the TMC unit is plugged in
- Also occasionally brings up 'Cannot store map settings - file access error' in a red box
- Unit occasionally resets
A chkdsk /f on the device shows that the \gns\gnsdata file has been corrupted. Fixing this resolves all the above problems. A non-technical user will have a unit that is unreliable and hangs and occasionally resets itself, which will lead to unnecessary product returns. A technical user, although they may be able to work around the problem when they return home, may be left with an unreliable unit during a long drive.
See the forum thread referenced above for more examples of this problem. |

Was going to go out and buy a 730T tomorrow but now not so sure.
Does anyone successfully use all of Handsfree, Traffic and FM streaming together reliably without any problems?
Thanks |
