Another cool 3.3 feature. When putting in a City/postcode - once you start typing, the keys you *can't* press next are greyed out as well as the possible match count decrementing as before.
Did I mention the "kill sound" icon? Oh I just did :-) _________________ Mio C710 on MioMap 3.3 |

It's based on the iGO My Way 2006 Plus software where all these features are present. I'm not sure if this is in 3.3 but it is in the My Way Plus software - temporary loss of the GPS signal, for example when driving in a tunnel, will lead the device to estimate your current GPS position.
So are you running a non hacked version of 3.3 successfully on a non widescreen device? |

Not yet been through a tunnel long enough :-)
Yup, bog standard C710. 3.3 uploaded fine with the Mio updater and so far it all looks good apart from the loss of TMC - which I found so unreliable that I turned off the auto avoidance. Whereas 3.2 would sit running around the frequencies with no signal, 3.3 just says "testing" and the frequency does not change from "No station name (103.8 MHz)" _________________ Mio C710 on MioMap 3.3 |

Interesting. Do you have an option on the screen to "subscribe TMC"? (Not that it will do you any good because the option was only ever actually available for US TMC broadcasts and Mio US has, in the manner of the European Mio, forgotten that they ever supported the C710 with TMC license files - they don't even understand the question.)
Just for the fun of it I would be curious to know what reply you get from Mio if you complain that after the update your TMC service is no longer working.
It's fair to assume I think that 3.3 wasn't meant to be downloaded for the C710 - yet another Mio error by the sounds of it. |

Well it is what happened when I followed all the links to upgrade a C710 :-)
After my last brush with "support" (See my time thread) I don't think I even want to bother - even for the fun! _________________ Mio C710 on MioMap 3.3 |

Just had a go on the Mio site. I'm running 3.2 Sept06 version. I know there is a March 07 version but the site says no updates available. I tried deleting the MioTech update folder in C:\Program Files\ and re installing the updater, but still no luck. Any other ideas???? No update to 3.2 let alone 3.3.
Did download the new Ireland map though and that went in ok with no errors (on to my SD card) and works.
With the reports about the Mio website, that's a mirracle. Just tried the Mio Club site. 'Too many connections.'
Shame that I like the software and mucking about with its dispaly or I might otherwiose buy a TT |

If anyone is interesting in this I'll give it a go and even put in the hours necessary to get it up and running: a website devoted to the poor customer support offered by Mitac and a number of good reasons (with examples) not to buy a GPS device from these jokers. I strongly suspect that negative publicity will persuade them to offer at least the minimum in terms of customer support. At present the quality of service is at best offensive.
I get a better level of support when I have a technical issue with my free Hotmail account.
So: is anyone interested in lending time to the creation of a domain name registered, search engine sensitive anti Mio/Mitac site? |

I doubt it. They seem to have ignored any negative publicity they get here and , mainly from the US, on GPS Passion.
I feel certain that someone from Mitac reads these comments and gives them a good ignoring. |

I am afraid you are correct. I don't think the NTLHELL website did much more than relieve the feelings of the posters :-)
OTOH it is a nice idea :-)
If *only* Mio would make the updater work from a local copy of the files - So that they at least could be fetched by *anything* that can tolerate crap connections. This starting from the beginning every time with the size of the files and the slow imposed speeds is just not acceptable. _________________ Mio C710 on MioMap 3.3 |
