I'm a new user as well and have a ton of questions, .
I have a Tom Tom 520 so what is the POI limit for that? I have a 1GB sd card as well. How do you actually install them?
I've been struggling to upload my own graphic to use on the map, I followed the Tom Tom instructions but it wouldn't work, any ideas?
Is it possible to download a voice that reads the street names?
How do you enter an address without a number?
I got a few more but I won't push my luck, .
Thanks for any help really appreciate it. |

Wth 7.21 software on your device the limit is 300 otherwise it is 100 for custom POI files.
The POI files must be placed in the map folder you want them to appear on, just copy and paste them into the map folder on the device, save the card for mp3 or newer maps should you need them later on.
Your device should read out street names but to do this you need to select a computer voice.
When you enter the street name and it asks for a number simply press done and it will accept no data entry for house number, it will put you in the middle of the street for a destination.
For your custom icon I don't know why it won't work, if you e-mail me the file I will have a look at it to see what is wrong (My e-mail is available from the button below this post) - Mike |

Sadly I think I binned the image as I got so frustrated, . Thanks for all the information btw. All the image was was a photo I took of the car and then I loaded it into photoshop and saved it to the requirements, no idea what went wrong.
I do have an annoying problem at the moment, I have just updated Tom Tom home but now I cannot operate my Tom Tom 520 through the cradle, when I try it tells me it has to download a file which I say yes to and it then says this file is not available really helpful eh? I wondered if you might have a better understanding? |

Don't worry about the differences in file size the download contains quite a few more files over and above the TomTom core software, data.chk for example is around 4MB and that is also part of what you downloaded - Mike |

Assuming THIS is the page you are trying to download from, this what you should see:
1. select TomTom OV2 in he first box
2. tick 'United Kingdom and click on "refresh"
3. the page should reload and a long list of POIs should appear under the title "3. select POIs"
If it doesn't, try clicking refresh again.
Once you have the list, select LESS than 22 categories (maybe just try one to start with), click on the "+" beside each one to see the sub-categories.
4. select whether you want to combine them into one or keep them seperate.
Download, having read the notes about I.E. etc |

Many thanks for all the help but still no luck. I choose CSV (even Tom) Then UK. Refresh clicked but on 2nd click goes back to start ie Tom in box. Incidentally 3 displays from start loading POI catagories but no progress bar in bottom task bar! I await the suggestions. |

It will always revert to the Default TomTom selection when Refresh is Clicked. You should make your File Type selection once you have the categories displayed on the page.
The File Type Option doesn't do anything until you click the Download Button, when it then generates the Files asked for, in the Format just selected. _________________ Richard

This is a long-standing, but intermittent, bug. The only real workaround is a bit of persistence. try refreshing the page, CTRL & Refresh, logging out & back in again, clearing your internet cache, switching to a different browser, or any combination of the above. eventually, you will get to see the categories to download.
It can be pretty annoying at times. I eventually installed Firefox purely to access the POI page, as it seems to have a better success rate than IE. The POI page is still the only thing that I use Firefox for. |

If I need (rarely) to use IE, then I just switch to the Firefox IE Tab. _________________ Richard
