it's just a standard html map with a bit of simpl javascript for adding the values - it shouldn't cause any issues with firewalls etc?
can you try firefox or opera (both free) see if they're ok? if so then it's likely a setting somewhere in ie7.

On desktop still use IE6 & Avant, both of which show compass.
So await other tips from XP users; lap top is 18mths old Dell Latitude.

FOR ADMIN:
Whilst on that page area, I'd find useful if the "+" symbol to open up the submit single camera page, was more to left,
NOT ON RIGHT MARGIN.
On a laptop with Favourites bar open, would save having to scroll to right of screen. _________________ Gel

Try resetting IE settings
Start Menu, Control Panel, Internet Options, Advanced Tab.
Click Reset Advanced Settings (not Reset...) and agree to everything. Close IE and reopen. |

MaFt. Is there any difference in the technique used to display the compass compared to how the cam icons on the map are displayed? It was definately a setting in my firewall that suppressed the cam icons, and I think that I was having the problem before the compass was introduced. It could also be that the compass 'appeared' at the same time as the cam icons due to my firewall setting.
What I did to start with (once I knew that the cam icons were supposed to be there) was to switch off (temporarily) my firewall and Virus s/w. All other settings the same. Cam icons showed. Then by elimination I found which was causing it.
I'm going to the pub for lunch, but when I get back, I'll see if I can find out what setting was giving ME the problem.

MaFt and others.
Re the code, I guessed as much.
I have found that by switching off and not sending you 'private headers (PHs)' in my Zone Alarm firewall, this prevents both the Cam icons and the Compass from displaying.
I really don't know what 'private headers' are or how they are used on the PGPSW website, but if I don't send them, I don't get the icons. I was fooled a while by my cache storing the base page and thus the compass, but the cams go as soon as I switch PHs off and scroll the map.

Many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many thanks
I've never been able to get the icons displayed! Lo & behold they're there now!!
MaFt, can you/Lutz see if the 'private headers' are necessary?
To get round the problem in Symantec Client Firewall, go into Options - Advanced Options and add www.pocketgpsworld.com to the list of sites. Click on www.pocketgpsworld.com, tick the Use these rules for www.pocketgpsworld.com and change Cookies to Permit. Then under Browsing Privacy change Referer to Permit. Click Apply and "Hey Presto!" _________________ Jock

Had added this site anyway, but can't find on my version, under ADVANCED OPTIONS for Symantec Firewall the option to amend.

@BFG
I guess that you are happy then.
In Zone Alarm Pro click the Privacy tab. Then the Site List tab, If not already there, add www.pocketgpsworld.com
and as we trust them, put ticks in all the boxes

We're clearly on different versions of software, this is the path on my version. _________________ Jock
