Glad it's not just me!
I think I read somewhere else on the forum that there is an upper limit for the TT1 running v6 of the software, of 101 items with a .ov2 extension in the GB map folder being recognised by the OS. Is this limit likely to be raised with later OS? - 101 is a bit weedy after all (or is it 101 and I misread...?) _________________ TT GO app on Android Phone

The limit is 100 custom POI files in any single map folder, there is nothing to say the limit won't increase or even decrease with future versions (it has happened before). Some users have reported less than 100 on the new version 7 but I have not tried that yet - I only have speed cameras installed at the moment - Mike |

Thanks Mike
Some experimenting with the downloads gave me some puzzling outcomes; if, for example, I choose to download 'Accommodation' as a combined category, I reach the 'modules.php' file ie abject failure. But some of the othe choices eg 'Fuel' is a success (I also tick 'show link').
I would thus suspect that the problem is in the web site script that prepares the download file. As a temporary work-round, my message to the site operators is: would it possible to direct us to sites/pages where we can download the combined items (yes, no choice of include/exclude sub-category items but I can live with that) so at least we can actually acquire the POIs? I don't even mind re-naming them as I download!
And, yes, as stated - Safari on a Mac just simply doesn't work because the tick box choice doesn't appear. This kind of implies non-compliance with www standards, but I refuse to complain over something that's both essentially free and something I couldn't do myself! _________________ TT GO app on Android Phone

OK, some more updating on 'fixing' the POI download problems - and apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere. I've found that the best way is to combine sub-categories (no surprise for TT1 users with the limit of 100 POI categories ie for me, 100 max items with an .ov2 extension in my GB map folder), tick the 'show link' box, and if the dreaded 'modules.php' problem occurs, expand the category selection and start deleting some of the items (for example, under car dealership, I'm unlikely to need to navigate to a Porsche or TVR dealer!). Reducing this number sufficiently then fixes the problem and the correct link will appear. Perhaps someone could tell me if there is definitely a fixed limit on the number of items selected under one category for consistent success? And to satisfy my curiosity - why?
Big, big thanks to all of the contributors who have kept these POIs up to date ![Cheers!](modules/Forums/images/smiles/custom14.gif) _________________ TT GO app on Android Phone

Thanks OldBoy - looked at the link you posted but I can't really see the answer to my question.
After some more 'culling' of (for me) unwanted sub-categories, I have now succeeded in producing a useful set of POIs (if it helps, using FireFox on both Linux and Mac).
I would guess that, given sufficient people having similar problems, the deficiency in the web script will be fixed at some time. But I'm happy! - I can already see the increased accuracy of the PGPSW POIs over those supplied by TT, so guess which ones I'll be using..... _________________ TT GO app on Android Phone

i never understood why people download things they don't want... ok, it's quicker to tick every box than it is to actually think about what you want, but surely the converse aplies - you have more stuff on your unit to filter through to find what you want!

MaFt - totally agree - when looking through, for example, the Food&Drink POIs, there are some that I know I'll never, ever be going to (might need POI just to avoid!)
Then again....Sod's Law probably has a parallel in the GPS world. The one POI you suddenly need is....the one you thought you'd never need. And didn't load. ![Crying or Very sad](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_cry.gif) _________________ TT GO app on Android Phone

I did quite a bit of experimenting a while back t0 find the best combined total to download and found it to be 22, but personally i stick to 20 to play safe and find i do not have a failure, Also the way i find usefull to cope with the limit of 100 POIs is to combine the regular ones like supermarkets or Fuel (1 entry each) and download the specialist ones that I do not use regulary as single items, in most cases the combined POIs still show the name so you can still select your favourite in the satnav, I have also created a sub directory called spare pois on my pda which I can store others that i may want to insert when out, must admit I have not filled this yet because I find that for me I am not reaching the limit, I also admit that I am not using the database to regulary update as i would like too due to the vast time and effort required to combine and append downloads due to the problems with it, I feel sure that the issues must be reflecting on the databases popularity, which is a shame if it is. |

How do you know what you want until you want it, Usually this happens when you are at the other end of the country and you havent got it, that is unless youve not forgotten your crystal ball. |

Hi,
There is a problem with some of the categories in the POI Database for the United Kingdom.
If you select any of the following categories for the TomTom system:
Accomodation
Builders Merchant
Car Auctions
Car Dealership
Car Parts Supplier
Commercial Site
Couriers
Estate Agent
Food & Drink
Motorcyle Dealership
Shopping - Other
Special Interest
and select "Combine subcategories into category file",
if you click "Download", the site attempts to download a file called "modules.php" rather than "POI.zip". "modules.php" is 0 bytes in size.
Exactly the same happens if you check "Show Link".
This problem occurs in Internet Explorer 6, 7 and Mozilla Firefox 2 and happens whether you select the categories on their own on in combination with any other category(ies). |

Try looking back to NukeThemAll's post seventh before yours.... |
