Sadly, as with bj, I'm still experiencing the same problem. (or was till last night) I'm now working away from home.
I'll try again at the weekend, see if the red arrow has appeared.

bj wrote: | Could you please advise me on the plug in component required many thanks | I don't know what it's called. I just know that when there is one available HOME asks if you want to download it, then install it. This makes the Virtual TT operate.
Did you get the message about a component to be downloaded?
If not, are you (the Device) Registered on TT Website? I don't know if it's to check genuine users. Not necessary to have a Plus Account. _________________ Richard

This is a long thread, and I haven't read every word. From what I can gather you can't see why it doesn't show your GO screen when the PC already 'sees' your GO is on.
Whether your GO is on or not, when you click on to 'MY GO' it will ask you to turn it on. If it's already on - it will still ask you to turn it on.
So, turn it off then turn it back on again and your screen will be displayed.
By the same token, if you are using the 'MY GO' feature then click on to a different menu item on the menu it wants you on turn the GO off again (then select the menu item and turn the GO back on again).
I've been using mine for a while and you soon get used to it.
If this isn't your problem please forgive the intrusion and continue re-installing the software.

I am also having this problem.
Bought new Tom Tom One GB Edition (new version), yesterday.
PC recognises memory card as a removable disk as "TomTom V3".
Intalled Home from CD, and updated version from website. Tried uninstalling Home and reinstalling. No difference.
I am able to "Explore" my TomTom, update it, and delete/add files, and backup is ok too. But on the bottom right hand side of the screen, clicking "My Device" (which says My ONE when the TOM TOM ISN'T connected), I get a picture of a black TOM Tom screen with a message saying "Please connect your Tom Tom device using a USB cable, and turn it on".
Anyone have any resolution to this. I can't set the PIN protection without it sat least.
If it helps, whenever I attach the ONE and switch it on, Windows ties to run "installtomtomhome.exe". I allow it to run, but nothing then happens. It's trying to run the file from my TOMTom's card, and there is a file called that on the TOmTom itself. |

With the GO attached (presumably on?) try turning it off then back on again. It should work. |

Makes no difference either.
It's also odd that Home shows "My ONE" under the "more..." section on the options list when it's off or disconnected, but changes to "My Device" when it's on or connected! |

I presume you are connected to the internet? When I installed TomTom Home last week it asked me if I wanted to install the plug in component, then downloaded it from the web. From then on I was able to use my TomTom One as a virtual device on the PC for itinerary planning etc

Definetely connected, I have a router with an always on connection.
Have just done a system restore to the point before first installing Home.
Installed Home fresh from the website. Attached and switched on my TT1, it came up with a button to download a component, which it did. Still have the blank tomtom screen asking me to connect!
Any more ideas folks? |

Think I'm getting a bit closer....
In my tomtom/downloads/navigator dlls folder in my documents there is a .dll file which I think was the one downloaded and unzipped by Home.
However, as you can see in my config above, the dll isn't loaded.... I think this dll must be what works the virtual tomtom (My one) feature.
How can I get this dll to load into Home?
I am really not understanding something here..... |

Have you tried Clicking on Device | Change Device and seeing what is in the Device Window.
It's not a problem I have had, so am just guessing.
As a matter of interest, what was the 'not installed' dll called? _________________ Richard

titanflux,

I believe the problem is due to you using Windows Vista, I have exactly the same problem on a vista laptop. Yet it works as advertised on an XP machine.
I'm afraid you will have to wait until TomTom release vista compatible drivers for TomTom Home. |

Thanks mcwill, I think you are right about windows vista.
Though it shouldn't really prevent the 6-500-7390-1.dll file from loading into home....
I'll have to bring my laptop home which runs Win XP.
Home though, is supposed to be compatible with all modern versions of Windows according to tomtom. |
