AA.com Route Planner also routes you via the A4 and not on any motorways.

Multimap.com also sends you via A Roads (A37) and not via any Motorways.

So does GoogleEarth.

Maybe the A roads are the fastest / shortest routes?

Probably differences in the way the software calculates the route. Also if one map is slightly more out of date than the other then that might also account for it.

Maybe if somebody still has v7 maps they could confirm what route their i3 takes - you don't need to wait for a simulation to complete, you can just turn off the gps, set a start point, set an end point, and review turns.

Just tried on my i3. Took me onto A39, M4, M5, A456.

My Navigation settings are:
Avoidances - only Carpool Lanes & Unpaved Roads checked.
Route Preference - Shorter Distance
Vehicle - Car/Motorcycle.

Hope that helps.

Anita

Are you on v7 or v7 maps, Anita?

For example if i plot a route from Sutton, Greater London to Durham the i3 sends me A3, M25, M1, M18, A1(M) but other route planners stay on the M1 longer to the A1(M) and skip the M18 section, some don't.

It's just differences in the software and maps. The differences between the journey times won't be that different. As long as it gets you there (and it's not going via some ridiculous route like Norway) i can't see the problem.

by the way dixie, the a4 runs east to west so how did the i3 take you on this road when you routed shepton mallet to tamworth which is south to north?

Even the AA.com Route Planner takes you on the A4 for a short distance - about half a mile

carpool lanes setting depends on how many you might have down south, they are better known as car shareing lanes. we dont have any up north.

You'll be getting the first!!!

http://www.topgear.com/content/news/stories/624/

Share your commute and you'll be able to use the first car-share lane, which is set to open in Yorkshire in 2007.

The new one-mile lane stretches between the M606 and M62, and it will only be open to cars with two or more occupants.
