Six speeding bikers, who used their own personal versions of speed cameras, delivered themselves into the hands of Bedfordshire Police.
The riders, who were doing wheelies, swerving in and out of traffic and reaching speeds of up to 146 mph, filmed their antics with GoPro cameras on one of the bikes. This obviously proved very useful to the authorities when they caught up with them.
Ironically, the bikes were shown to slow down for speed cameras along their 40 mile route from Bedford to the Hatfield Tunnel.
At one point, a Mercedes driver became involved in a race with the bikes - he was also incriminated by the GoPro camera.
Convicting them all for dangerous driving, the Judge at St Albans Crown Court told them: "It was showing off and juvenile behaviour. The pack mentality meant you egged each other on. It was an incredible display of idiocy."
He added: "You treated other road users like they were obstacles in a video game. You give a bad name to those who go out to enjoy motorbikes."
The bikers, aged between 25 and 37 years, received bans ranging from 12 months to three years and ordered to pay £500 each in costs.
The 50 year old Mercedes driver was banned for 12 months and ordered to pay £2,700 costs. All have to take extended retests.

Why not all fined the same? Surely if they were all guilty they should all of paid £500 or £2700? _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 51 LMT-D Europe |

Last I heard, fines are imposed in amounts relative to the culprit's assets/earnings. _________________ Dennis

Perhaps the Merc drivers offences were more extreme? |
