|
|
Hi all,
I have the Garmin nuvi 1690.
When I am in a city center, the screen is covered with icons of restaurants, etc.
I have removed all the items in the POI folder, but the damn icons are still showing.
It is so bad, that the icons distract from the roads, and make the screen cluttered and confusing.
The map I have is the original map, CN Europe NT 2010.20
It seems to me that the POI are embedded into the original CN Europe NT 2010.20 map.
Can the icons (POI) be remover, are are they "part and parcel" of the original Garmin map, when I bought the device.
This is a list of the folders I have in the Garmin
Garmin
GPX
Help
JPEG
Keyboards
Poi
Reports
Text
Vehicle
Voice
nuvi-drive (not folder)
Webupdater_242 (not folder)
The Poi folder is empty
Thanks if any one can tell me how to stop the icons (POI) showing.

Afraid the POIs are part of the map, you can't delete them.
The POI folder is used for user loaded POIs, it has nothing to do with the ones in the map database. |

Thanks sussamb,
That's a bummer !
If I download the latest Garmin map, 2014.10 does that also have the embedded POI's?
Any thing you can suggest so not to show them?
Thanks,

POIs are embedded in all Garmin mapping ...
Newer nuvis only show them when zoomed in to 200 feet or below ... but there is no control over this, although some of the later nuvis allow you to turn off certain layers, thus hiding POIs. |

Fraid so ... but many users of more recent nuvis post that they want to be able to see them and can't unless they zoom well in
Guess it's something that should be user selectable ... you could post your request here and hope others do and Garmin take note http://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/
Incidentally you might try playing with Tools, Settings, Map, Map detail ... I don't have your GPS but it may do what you want, but it will probably have other effects that you might not |
