After many years (sice 2007) it looks like a update has corrupted my TT720 so it just simply will not work anymore. On boot up all appears OK but you either get stuck on the 'legal' screen and are unable to click the agree button, or if it's connected to the PC it wont take the 'Yes' to conect (or No for that matter). Resets have done nothign to help and I cant get it connected to the PC by any means I'm stuck (any help/ideas welcome of course).

I need a working SatNav by the end of this week as I'm off for a 2.5-3k mile drive then, so i strongly suspect IF anythign can be done with the TT720 it wont be done in time. So I'm looking for a replacement.

I'm just after a nice big screen with full Europe maps, live traffic would be nice but I dont beleive my phone would connect to them(iphone 3S). As I'm not specaily after any of the 'Bells & Whistles' some offer I'm looking at just the basic Start 60 (and forgo the live traffic). My only concern with these units is the mount.

It appears like the Ball & Socket type that the 720 mount used to be. My problem then was as the cars have firm suspension they could not hold the SatNav in place over a potholed road (and we have many...). After a few months just began to 'flop' as the ball/socket was no longer tight. This was no longer a problem withe 720 as I got a good aftermarket bracketr. Looking at the Start TomToms though it looks like that would not be possible?

What are the brackets like on the TT Starts? Would I be better going with one of the Go's as they do seam to have sold aftermarket brackets?

Did you try resetting the unit by pressing the straightened end of a paper clip in the reset hole on the bottom?

Yes all types of 'Resets' have been tried. They make no difference. I've emailed TT support but I'm not holding my breath.

I guess the post is more about what the TTStart mounts/brackets are like, and I cant attach them to a dashboard - just the windscreen.

Sounds like the internal memory has died (not uncommon on models of that age - it happened to my Go720), but it may well be recoverable if you run everything from an SD card.

If you have an SD card spare to try, stick it in the slot and see if you are then able to connect to the PC. If you can, we can start advising on how to rebuild the system.

OK, I might not be able to go into as much detail as normal, as I'm at work at the moment and will have to keep dashing off, but here goes with a few pointers.

First, do you have any bakups of the system? We can get most stuff reloaded for free, but we cannot replace your maps unless you have them backed up, so you may have to re-purchase.

If the unit now connects to the PC, it SHOULD appear as two new "disk drives" (one for the internal memory and one for the SD card) See if you can access anything on the internal mam and if you can, copy everything to the PC and keep it safe.

Next, with the SD card inserted, try running TomTom Home and see if a new copy of the operating software gets offered. It may do it automatically, or you may need to select "update my device".

Many thanks Smile

All internal memeory is now all copied to the PC.
Old SD card contents copied across as well.

Not sure if I have a back-up of the maps (might be on a diffrent PC but I had issues with that one recently - string of bad luck I guess) but I tell home to install them to the SD card rather than the internal memeory (due to size issues)

I've not deleted anything from the internal mem but with both the blank SD card and the old/original SD card when TT home is run for a update it says 'Device is up-to-date'. I do also of course have the option to back-up/restore as it's on a PC now (not tried this as of yet though).

Yes I have a back-up (via TT home) done just before I ran the update that casued the issues.
