I'm sure TT/Tele Atlas must be aware already (ever the optimist! ) but....
Quote: | Just in case anyone is working or holidaying in Spain, and in case it hasn't got to the British press, please note. The speed limit has been lowered today for motorways and dual carriageways. Where it was previously 120kph, it is now 110kph.
More than this, word is out that although announced as an exercise to save fuel use, it is a major earner of revenue and therefore going to be operated in a very keen way with a lot of cameras and 100 euros fine. I'm wondering how soon TomTom will update for advance planning.

Hi Andy_P, I hope you don't mind but an adjustment to the Dual Carriageway speed limit in your information is needed. Unless publicised otherwise (and it often is!):-
Motorways = 110km/h
Dual Carriageways = 100km/h
Single Carriageways =90km/h
Towns/Urban = 50km/h

had a few emails regarding this actually. not of sure the best way to handle it...
a blanket 'change all spanish, fixed 120 to 110' could work but doesn't take into account tunnel's etc...
maybe wait for individual submissions?! dunno really... thoughts appreciated!

I'd go for blanket change, then see any individual submissions for any you get wrong. It's no terrible thing to have a camera warning at slightly below the correct limit - other way round could be disastrous. _________________ Dennis

MaFt, I agree with DennisN, change all 120's for 110's.
From what I understand, the Spanish National Speed Limit has been reduced from 120 to 110km/h, so, in theory, anything which was 120km/h last week is now 110km/h. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

Done. All Spanish 120's in database now lowered to 110.

I'm a little late in this thread.

Totally agree with Dennis as a blanket change downwards and wait for individual changes is the quickest way.
However, now might be a good time to think whether it's a good time to add an extra field in the Master Database to show the road type (i.e. Motorways, Dual Carriageways, Single Carriageways, Towns/Urban, etc) for each country. So when speed limits for a particular type of road increases or decreases then it'll be easier to identify and change the necessary sites.

I'm heading for France & Spain in the next couple of weeks, does the camera database cover these countries & is it legal to use them? I was told you cannot, but maybe that is for laser alerts only?

Yes it does and yes it's legal. The French database is a bit behind in terms of numbers so be careful anyway - on the plus-side you stand a higher chance of bagging some new cameras!
Only the laser detectors (as opposed to POIs) are illegal as far as I'm aware.

Thanks for that, it will be my first time driving in France or Spain, so that should make it more pleasurable, one less thing to worry about.

According to www.dgt.es a new type of Speed Camera is beginning to be rolled out across Spain to catch tourists. Using ANPR technology, if you set off a speed cam and your car is not registered on the Spanish system an alert is sent to local police patrols. If they stop you, you will be given an on the spot fine (multa) in accordance with This document. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

I like that! But only if we do the same in the UK to catch all those 'tourists' who think they are free to do what they like in another country. _________________ David

Looks like it's going back up to 120km/h.
http://es.noticias.yahoo.com/el-gobierno-vuelve-fijar-en-120-km-h-122330840.html
EDIT - Brief Translation = The Government are not going to extend the (temporary) restriction in speed of 110Km/h beyond 1 July at which time the speed shall return to 120km/h.
Time to get busy with the database MaFt! Buenos suerte Amigo. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599
