TomTom GO units have for sometime now had the facility to show you "Where am I?" and to call the AA (in the UK) and other breakdown services in other countries. Now it looks like TomTom are offering their own breakdown service provided by Mondial Assistance.

Doesn't the Live 1000, have the problem of no POI alerts? |

I've just deleted my seventh copy of this email - they've been arriving for a few days now. I tick the box to allow email communications in the vain hope that TT will one day send me some useful news about new map or Navcore releases. They never do! I never learn!
I thank my lucky stars that PGPSW don't send out such junk - they have a pretty good database of potential users of the lawyers who get you off speding fines, motor insurance companies and goodness knows what else.
Unfortunately my usual action is not possible with emails - if junk mail has a prepaid return envelope, I pack all the junk in it and scrawl over my address details "Please remove my details from ALL your records, I do not wish to receive unsolicited mail". I know it doesn't do any good, but it cheers me to know they'll have to pay the postage and somebody to open it. I checked the one I did this morning and the Post Office said it'd cost 96p if I put a stamp on it myself. _________________ Dennis

Whats the betting that on release the device still calls the AA phone number for assistance even if you have the Mondial/ TomTom option payed for when you tap the "HelpMe" icon - I guess I am growing far too cynical these days but it really wouldn't surprise me - Mike |

Hah! The device can't call anything, if it hasn't got its own SIM card and not many do (remember, TT can't pair a helluva lotta Bluetooth phones - the current Help Me service is free, so if it doesn't work you haven't got much gripe, paid for service has GOT to work. Breakdown in a no signal area means you've got to go somewhere with a signal and you can't drive there taking the device without any battery charge!). You'll just get a Mondial membership card and phone numbers to ring yourself - this is on offer for all existing device owners (that's all of my currently valid TT registrations from TTN6/7 through x00s, x10s, x20s, x30s, x50s, XLs - I haven't registered the Carminat yet!), not the upcoming 1000.
Thank God TomTom don't know I'm eligible for over 70s funeral plan and over 60s plan for leaving a paltry sum for my relatives and dogs! _________________ Dennis
