When in navigation mode, ie with the detailed map showing, TomTom has a habit of changing screens to display essentially a black screen with just some speed and distance information on it, and only comes back to the map view when it approaches junctions.
How do you keep it on map view permanently?

You need to check what is your "Safety Speed".
Goto "Properties" in TTN then under "navigator properties" the first item on the screen is "Safety Speed" - you have probably got this set at a low speed - if you increase the speed this will cure this.

Thanks very much for the reply, yep you were right, the safety speed was set at 40, thought it would have to be something simple.
Thanks again |

My personal view is that a safety speed of 30mph is fine - above that, once the "new toy" factor has worn off, the map is really just visual clutter for the driver, and the safety screen is more useful (especially as Navigator 3 shows actual junction layouts on the safety screen when you get near to the junction).
However, it's a personal thing - which is why it's configurable. I think a safety screen speed of 0mph disables the safety screen completely, but I could be wrong on that.
