Can anyone inform me of the otimum power settings for the satmap10.

At present I have Automatic Power Saving set to - always on. is this correct? Confused

Automatic screen turn off - after 1 minute

Alert when screen off - set to off

Advanced power control set to - normal.

I have tried the search on this furum but perhaps its me but it never seems to get the results I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance

Very similar to my set up and it works for me:

Auto Power save is set to always on (I don't see the point of turing the device off while in use.

Auto screen off - I use 30 seconds, but this is down to individual choice

Alert when screen off - Drives me mad if enabled so this is always off - you notice how bad this is when enabled if charging the device in a dark hotel room and the damn thing bleeps and flashes every few minutes - about the most useless option on the device IMHO.

Advanced power control is set to normal as I want to see where I am every second not every four and I use the Track up mode rather than North Up.

I guess its down to what you want from the device, I use a backlight of 50 to 60% most of the time as this really does save the battery. if I can't see the screen I use the backlight boost button rather than increasing the backlight setting. The backlight intensity will have the greatest bearing on battery life so keep it as low as you are happy with under the prevailing conditions - Mike

Many thanks for the info much appreciated.

I dont know how my settings got changed, I think it was when I downloaded the latest firmware. I did not check after the download and went out on a walk and it switched itself off.

Did not realise until 2hours into the walk when I next checked up, as the path was well marked till then, so lost all of the data up to that point.

I was a little annoyed to say the least.

Thanks again

I set advanced power control to advanced when walking, but normal when cycling as 4 seconds can make a biggish difference when travelling fast. When walking I set screen brightness to 40%, and screen off to 15 secs. this gives me up to 22 hours battery life with the Li poly and Energizer Li ultimates, which is v useful when backpacking away from power sources,

Just above the power on/ off switch is another smaller round button pressing that takes the screen backlight to 100% for ten seconds or so, very handy if you need to view the map in bright conditions without having to go through the menu to mess around with the backlight levels - Mike
