Tom Tom power supply

I had a Medion Sat Nav hard wired in my car and have bought a Tom Tom with a mini usb power connector. As it is going to cost about £35 to change the car charger I was wondering if I could just change the old DC connector with a asb connector. Car chargers all seem to produce about 5 vdc so I can't see a problem but I want to be sure. Has anyone any experience of this?

Why not buy a Car Accessory Socket - FE42V - from Maplin. Wire that in and use the TomTom lead. Can be hidden behind the dash.

They do other leads with that socket on it, you could just cut one end off the lead and wire that in. BV47B

Thanks for the info. I was mainly concerned about the current rating. There is a mini usb socket in Maplins that I could wire in after removing the DC connector. A DC to mini usb connector would have made life a bit easier but they can't help.
