Does anyone know of any software that will cleanup a POI database?

I.e. Fuel database contains multiple POI's for the same Petrol Station - with each POI being in a very slighlty different location.

The sort of thing I am looking for is software that will detect POI's that are within say 100 Metres of each other and delete all aprt from the first POI

POI Edit has a facility to detect duplicates within a specified distance of one another. Be wary not to set the distance so that you identify two stations on the opposite side of the road as a single duplicate!

However, if you have created your POI files by combining many sub-categories available from this site, you are likely to have got duplicates if you have included things like Unleaded, LPG, BioDiesel or Diesel Direct in your compilation. These are nearly always at a location which is already identified within one of the major fuel suppliers' lists. (E.g See 52.42504,-1.79589 for a site which has Shell and LPG POIs at the same location - for a perfectly valid reason).

If this is the case, you may find it easier to download again, but this time only select the major suppliers' sub-categories, and omit the ones mentioned above.

That seems very odd...
Assuming we are still talking about your "Fuel" example, are you sure it isn't because of what Daggers said about diesel and LPG causing the duplicates?
If you just make a new download of just Asda, BP, Esso, Gulf, Shell, Sainsbury etc (ie unticking the ones like LPG, Fuelcards, Shell v-power diesel etc) what do you get then?

Nope, that's 1 metre!.
I just tried it and it seemed to work ok for me. Just load your file, go to edit/find duplicates. Enter the range and click on the binoculars icon to do the search.

Perhaps you can give us an example of one of the locations where these multiple instances happens to be - then someone can look into it. It's a bit difficult to be certain without seeing a specific example of your problem. Yes, there maybe one or two instances where a filling station has changed hands that both old and new are recorded on the PGPSW database, but these are few and far between.

Jus another thought - you're not by any chance using both TomTom and PGPSW databases are you?
