Hi and welcome.
Map updates are only free if you bought a product and it has an older set of maps than are currently available.
i.e. If you buy a unit and it has the 2007 maps on when the 2008 maps are already out.
Otherwise you have to pay.
POI are part of the map data and come with the map. You can't update the built in POI seperately, but you can add extra Custom POIs from this site which will install along side the Garmin ones. The ones from this site are usually more accurate and up to date than the built in Garmin ones.
Salesman is confused!!!!
edit: Ammended info on POIs |

Ok then there will be updates for a year or just once?
How many time a year there is new map free or not free?
Is garmin can create POI category? And would it tell in a list all those POI in that category + the distance from where you are? |

Free updates (if you qualify as the previous reply) would just be the once.
Maps are generally updated each year (around this time of year).
Yes you can create POI categories and POI points.
By default they are listed in distance order from your current position (or last known position). _________________ Phil |

Also some units (like my i3) only show the closest 50 POIs. Not sure about the Nuvi.... |

Yep - my 660 'limits' the list - not sure of the length though. _________________ Phil |
