I'm in the US 'til new year and with the strong pound want to buy a satnav over here and then add Europe maps when back in the UK.
requirements:-
about $150
can download europe maps for free without difficulty
I am thinking that maps on an SD Card rather than preinstalled would be more sensible (so TomTom One doesn't work).
One thought was the MyGuide 3100. There seem to be plenty of torrents with maps for download but is this as easy as it sounds or are there authentication problems when installing? Or maybe I should get this from ebuyer for 80 pounds and download US maps onto the SD card, we do want to have both.
Any thoughts ?
(By answering this you are of course not justifying me pirating maps just giving useful info !)

If you buy maps off ebay expect to get ripped off, and since you would deserve it, come here for sympathy, we can all enjoy a good laugh at your expense
Maps are generally well protected with some form of DRM. Getting hold of the CD's is easy, it's cheap to copy one, hell, I'll send you copies of my Navman CD's but you won't get my KEY. Getting hold of keys that work is hard.
The other trick they do is sell some freeware software that displays scanned maps. You don't get routing or guidence, just an expensive, low quality version of a paper map.
So either buy from a legitimate source, or save some grief and buy a paper map. (Oh - have you read the DMCA lately, and keep in mind as a non US citizen you don't have the protection of the constituion). |

They've finally admitted it's "up to..."
Most maps, including Western Europe, were only 28% off. |
