|
|
Hi, yesterday I just received a notice for "entering and stopping in a box junction where prohibited", £120 fine or £60 if paid within 14 days.
I had no idea these sorta of cameras existed, I just started a new job with a company car and as a result I do a lot of driving, especially in the london area.
I was just wondering, are these covered as red light cameras?, if not maybe the team should consider accepting submissions for these types because I can imagine someone who does a lot of driving can get caught out even if they did not mean to block the junction.
I will certainly be more careful in future, I never knowingly block these junctions but in this case I cant even remember what quite happened.
This is going to sound silly, but Is there anything else I need to watch out for.
Thanks for reading _________________ They dont like it up em sir, They do not like it up em! |

I think these cameras have been discussed in the past and, like bus lane cameras, we aren't thinking about hosting such a database.
Blocking of box junctions causes untold congestion and at the risk of sounding sanctimonious, you'll just have to be more careful.
As for other things to watch out for, anything and everything. _________________ Tim |

I do agree with you, it was a mistake but I am not going to make any excuses.

Having said that, I was nearly caught on a level crossing the other day, and I work on the railways! I was coming over Farnham crossing towards the A31 and as I came around the corner, a car was reversing into the roadspace I was going to use. He'd reversed to let a car out of the station but that left me stuck in the middle of the crossing. Luckily nothing was following me and I was able to reverse off the crossing, and a minute later the barriers came down. _________________ Tim |

YES!
Don't drive in bus lanes, it's a £100 fine and virtually every bus lane in London has a camera. These are controlled by operators and they can turn them around at will to monitor box junctions, red routes etc.
They also use cameras for parking and enforcement of other road rules. If you make an illegal turn or stop in the wrong place then they will send you a ticket in the post.

It doesn't help you if you can't remember doing it, but it is not widely known that you CAN wait in a box junction if you are turning right.
Quote: | Highway Code Rule 174
Box junctions. These have criss-cross yellow lines painted on the road (see 'Road markings'). You MUST NOT enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear. However, you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right. |

So what deal have they done to get the DVLA to release that info?
As I understand it, no crime has been committed, and it's private land so no parking regulations have been broken, so I thought the DVLA would refuse to divulge any info. I'm sure *I* can't get that information out of them. |

Yes, the petrol station at Gatwick does it. There are big signs there warning people about this. Apparently a quite a few people have stood up to this type of extortion and they back down because of the negative publicity their money making scam causes.
Andy - I can't remember exactly how, but there is provision for a private company to get your details from the DVLA. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Our local Sainsburys Fuel Station has a notice that they have APNR cameras and can obtain details, if they need to prosecute. _________________ Richard

That I can understand, because driving off without paying is a criminal offence. But parking a bit longer than you should on a private bit of ground? |

Well as it's Private Land they can set the T&C of parking there. |
