I've got a Tomtom ONE, and the SD card seems to be completely ruined; after disconnecting it to my computer, I get this "red cross of doom" you folk talk of when I try to switch it on, so I installed the Home software and tried to re-write the map data etc to the card but the directory was "unreadable". When I try to view the card on Windows Explorer it's completely empty.
What course of action can I take? If I buy a new generic SD card, will it be compatible with the Tomtom? Is there any way I can get the map data etc onto a new SD card? What advice can you guys give?
Thanks a lot! |

Did you make a FULL backup using windows explorer, if you did, just buy a new SD card, make sure it is a fast read, and copy the backup onto the new card using windows explorer. You might want to get a 512mb card, so you can get POi's etc on it, or bigger if you plan to download maps. If you haven't got a FULL windows explorer backup, or just a HOME backup, then I think you will have to get in touch with TomTom, maybe they will re-load the SD card for you.
Have a read through here, very usefull stuff, especially number 1, it tells you how to make a backup.

Thanks for the reply.
I didn't make a back-up, I've only it for a few days and it just randomly wiped when I connected it to my computer. Is the software available on the Home CD for if I buy a new SD card? Do I now need to contact TomTom? |

You can download the softwear, I think you do it through HOME, it's free, but you will also need the maps, which isn't free, you will have to pay for them, so unless you buy a brand new TomTom card with the maps/softwear on, I think you will have to get in touch with TomTom. When you disconnect the TomTom from the computer did you click on "Safly remove Device" icon, next to clock, if you just pull the lead out, that will damage the SD card. Keep us imformed, let us know if you want any more help. _________________ Audi A3 Sline sat nav |

I think I might know the source of the problem, my partner restarted the computer with the Tomtom attached, and the Windows check-disk utility thing came up when the computer started again, so the removable disk (the SD card) may have been formatted, or something along those lines.
I can now get files onto the SD card though, when I go to install the update software through the HOME program I get the error message "this installation file does not exist : 'my computer/....../TOMTOM/downloads/navcore_6560_7914(2).c'"
Any help? |

Tried that already, to no avail .
I have the "satellite imagery" on the CD that came with it, are they the maps?
Basically the main problem is getting the main software onto to SD card. I'm still getting the error message "this installation file does not exist : 'my computer/....../TOMTOM/downloads/navcore_6560_7914(2).c'" when I go to install it. |

Go HERE download, install and run the programme, it's a freebie, and you may be able to recover the missimg file/files. |

Hi M8,I had a TTone V2 with one dead pixel.I took it back to argos and they gave me a new one without any problems. I would go back to where you bought it from. Most shops will help you.If all else fails, you have the product activation code,so,you could contact TomTom.Explain went to do backup and PC crashed part way through. |

Oldboy has pulled it out of the hat; the Tomtom now runs, albeit without any maps .
So I now need some maps. Any ideas where I can get them (aside from the online Tomtom store)? Is eBay a good idea?

It's not going to be much good without the Maps. You have a choice for that.
1. You can either do as rory1968 suggests and take it back to the retailer.
2. Contact TT and, as rory1968 suggests again, see if they will help you out.
3. Buy a new Map while they are still at a discount.
My preference would be in that order. _________________ Richard

OK, I will contact TT, but will my activation code be enough? I bought the device off eBay second hand you see, but it was as new when I received and first used it.
Thanks a lot for the help people! |
