Hello, I have a question. I just bought my first garmin unit, which is a streetpilot c580. Since it's my first unit, I was wondering is there anything I should be aware of or look forward to doing? Like upgrading maps, map source etc? I don't even know what map source is. Just wondering what to look for. Any tips for a new owner will be nice. Thanks and God Bless. |

to the forum, Mr. Soldier.
Don't think we're ignoring you, it's just that the c580 is quite new. I did a search for 'c580' on all forums and got 1 hit - your post!
As it's so new I doubt there are any updates to be had.
Let us know your experiences so far. _________________ Garmin i3 gone (sold on eBay)

Mapsource is always worth keeping up to date, especially as it's free. It's a programme which allows you to plot routes on a PC and then transfer saved routes to your device, for a start. Also, if your 580 can store tracklogs, you can save these to your PC and see where you've been. You can create waypoints on one device and save them to the other, edit them and all sorts of other things.
Map updates aren't free and it's up to you if you want them, but Garmin generally release one update per year. _________________ Tim |

Thanks graham and Tim, this seems like a great forum! I'll let you know my experiences once I get it, electronica direct claimed they shipped it, but I don't have a tracking number. But anyways, I'm very excited about this device. I'll really need it in Jacksonville. Thanks and for help and welcome. God Bless |
