|
|
Has anyone been able to get Garmin to give them the MapSource DVD of the pre-loaded maps that came with a Nuvi 660? I understood this was possible but when I emailed them to ask, they said no, due to the licensing of the 660. I am not happy about this, and wonder if anyone else had more success?
Thanks

Generally, it's difficult to get a DVD of MapSource out of Garmin Europe (although the US version is easily available from Garmin US) - why do you want it? If it's just for the MapSource software, search this forum and you should find a website where you can register and download some maps which include a copy of MapSource.
Otherwise, you'll just have to wait until the v10 maps are released when Garmin will send you a DVD with MapSource on it. |

Hi Guys
I don't think you can do this on the gsptopo site anymore.

Elsewhere on this forum there are comments that the V9 maps DVD is freely available but useless without the unlock code. Presumably a new 660 has a yellow slip with an unlock code. The DVD is useful for a backup of the maps, and to allow the maps to be used on the PC - remember that on the PC Mapsource allows you to set your own speed for roads, even though this cannot be transferred to the satnav.
Presumably the mapset on the Nuvi is compressed - can that compressed file be used by Mapsource on the PC? |

The easiest way of getting hold of the DVD is when Garmin release new maps, as they ship the DVD out, but as the yellow slip will be for the previous map version, you need to pay to unlock the new maps. An expensive way just to get MapSource...
