|
|
Hello
i have Tomtom ONE
i copyed a PocketPC tomtom nativator 5 software onto a 1gb card and insterted it into the tomtom one
it started with a different splash and sound then the screen frozed.
i tryed restarting it ... same frozen display ... green and other colored lines in a vertical position
i tryed to do a reset. i pushed the reset button several times.
now my screen is frozen and its all white, and wont change.
the tomtom is not recognized when i plug it into the PC via the USB cable.
what can i do ?
someone told me that i might need to do an eeprom rewrite/reset/reprogram.
but i dont have the original eeprom nor the program to install it.
this someone also suggedted that the tomtom might read the card and i there is such a software as a service software and i might be able to find it and put in on my tomtom sdcard along with the apropriate eeprom it might work.
like on PC bios.
can anyone help me ? |

What you are trying to do is illegal and won't work - Tom Tom aren't that stupid.
The more important question is why are you doing this? Why not just use the SD card that came with your ONE? _________________ Peter

Don't shout!
Even once is in breach of your licence agreement.
If it were that easy we'd all buy the cheap nav maps & use them in our TT's.
I think you may well have corrupted the software within your unit so I don't know how you're going to get round it but I would strongly suggest you do not return it to TT explaining your problem. |

well i am very positive about the build in software being corrupted
that is no question about it
the question is how can i fix it ?
there must be some kind of way to fix it.
what is the big problem with the returning and telling them that it doesnt work anymore ? |

All I was saying is don't tell TT why it froze.
"Sorry Mt TT, I was trying to pirate some of your software and my units crashed" |

well i turn it on but it turn off by itself if its not used ... and well what can u use on a white screen ?
i tryed to turn it on and on and on
but it wont discharge the battery
will a battery discharge make it back to normal ?
as far as i know eeproms are burnt and they dont loose they're contents even if they run out of power.
as for the paperclip thing, do you mean to push that restet button that can be only reached with a paperclip ? i did that ! serveral times ... nothing |

If the linux kernel boots then you might be able to wire a serial cable into it and recover it. If it's gone so far that even that doesn't work (which sounds likely) you're into JTAG territory...
It's entirely possible that TT will know exactly what you tried and would refuse to fix it (if the TT Navigator has left anything behind.. which it sounds like it has.. they have the equipment to find it easily).
Write it off to experience. Sometimes 'experiments' go wrong (heck, I've had to do that enough times in my life... I still haven't learned my lesson either). |

Everybody calm down here. You cannot break a ONE just by inserting a Pocket PC SD card.
Save the map from your ONE SD card to the PC, then format the SD card (FAT is just fine, do a thorough format) and then use TomTom HOME or the old style installer to install the GO software again. Then restore the map, add some voices, and put the card back into the ONE. It will startup just fine. _________________ Lutz

hey
okay i put my 1gb SD on the card reader. formated it
using the tomtom cd now ...
i cant add the application using the original cd, it doesnt has such an option.
i am using a zip file that i downloaded from the tomtom site.
it has application nr. 5.450 (5652)
this sees the card and installs the application.
now i have these files on the SD card :
system
ttsystem
install.bif
data.chk
connect2internet.db
connect2internet.so
connect2internetdb.ver
installation.bif contains this :
[TomTomGo]
RamDiskVersion=20060328
Bootloaderversion=3.30
there is an arrow pointing to the right here in from on this line but if i copy paste it wont show up, is that okay ?
hereitshouldbeanarrow alt+nr LinuxVersion=1011
ApplicationVersion=5652
with the same application i try to install a splash screen but it doesnt put the splash on the card. i've put it manually.
and the maps also i cant install them !
i have a backup of the original sd that came with the tomtom can i copy the maps from that !?
i used this application then started tomtom home ... that recognizes my sd card as an unknown device ... no wonder its only a card connected to the PC not the whole device (since the device is not recognized by the pc, nor the card trough the device)
so i select the card to be tomtom one.
i copyed the maps from the original sd, removed the sd card then added it to the tomtom ... still nothing white screen
tonyhoyle how do i know if the linux kernel starts ?i cant wire a serial cable coz it has only usb connection !!!
JTAG territory ... what is that ? |
