I'm new to this technology and my sat nav so can anyone tell me is there a database of European speed cameras etc?

Thanks for the info. I knew that dedicated radar detectors are illegal, (the French will confiscate them and give you a big fine just for carrying one in the car, even if it is disconnected and in the boot!
Thats why I wondered if site notification rather than a detector would be ok.

I've read in this forum where someone said that Sat Navs with camera locations are illegal in Eire.
France, according to one of the British members who lives in the south of France, asked the gendarmerie and was assured it is OK there. However, a French friend told me it is 'Forbid'.
There must be a department somewhere in the UK that could give details,similar to the carrying of triangles, spare bulbs etc. and we'd all know where we stand.

| Unless French law has changed in the past two years detectors are definitely illegal in France. I was travelling in a car with one.... the gendarmes confiscated the detector and kept the driver at the police station overnight while he negotiated the fine, we pivked him up the next day £90 worse off. |

It hasn't changed. The grey area is with Sat Navs giving warnings of cameras.
Basically it is illegal to have any device which detects cameras.
Not sure about the French language but here Synonyms of Detect are - Notice, sense, become aware of, perceive, spot, distinguish, identify and discover.
And of Device include - piece of equipment, apparatus, appliance and gadget.
The way I see it is, if I use a piece of equipment, apparatus, appliance or gadget to notice, become aware of, spot, identify or discover a camera, which it what I can do with my PDA, then I could have a problem with the law in France.
Personally I stick with the limits when in France, not worth chancing it.
