I see from The Times today, that Gatso are/have introduced a new camera add on that will take a front view of you as well...apparently to stop those caught saying that it was somebody else. Would/does this mean that we should see a new 'category' of camera in the database ? Seems like a good idea to me.

It's just a standard Gatso site with an additional forward facing camera accompanying it (though why they don't just use forward facing Gatso's like the rest of Europe) so I don't see a need for an additional category?

Might be nice to warned to 'smile' for the camera....or for the more dubious of you...'don't try and play hard to get if you get caught with this device...better pay up'. I think it would be nice to know that they've got my picture with this Gatso...no messin'.

I thought they weren't supposed to use normal Gatso's forward-facing, because firing a high-power flash in your eyes while you are driving isn't terribly safe.
Has that changed?

The second camera isn't a 'normal' Gatso and has a low intensity flash that allegedly does not blind the driver Confused

These new cameras have an invisible infra-red flash.

Existing Gatsos will flash at you as you are driving towards them, though I don't think they take a photo because by the time the second flash goes off the vehicle would be out of the picture.

Because that would mean the removal of the existing Gatso to be replaced with a Truvelo and they aren't going to just throw away their Gatso cash machines.

It's interesting that the Police are be putting in these extra cameras. They say it's so they can identify the driver so people can't say they didn't know who was driving.

I think the truth is more sinister and what is probably happening is that more and more people are simply denying that anyone was actually driving their car at the time of the offence.

The scamera partnership produce a photo of the back of a Ford Mondeo with your numberplate but that doesn't prove anything - the motorist simply insists that no one was driving their car at the time, implying that their number plate must have been cloned. This becomes a very, very difficult case to prove one way or another and it gets quietly dropped.

Maybe they are starting with Gatso Swap outs .. The other week I noticed that the Gatso at the end of the Heston Services Slip road on the M4 heading East was gone :D .. Was going to email a database update.. Then on Friday morning I noticed in the central reservation a Monitron had appeared Sad
