Hello I am new to the forum so I am sorry if this subject has already been covered.
I have been told its possible to upgrade the Navman software so that it can do a 7 digit post code search, is this correct? If so, can some kind soul point me in the direction to download said software.
Thank You. |

The 'Postcode Upgrade' on eBay is actually a POI file (or maybe several files) which will show you the general location of a particular postcode. It will also slow your Navman down enormously, especially on startup as it takes time for the POI file to load into memory.
The rumoured SmartST upgrade will (hopefully) be a much beter way of implementing 7 digit postcodes. _________________ Tim |

Hi dk & Tim
I have tried the alleged postcode files and they were huge.
So huge in fact that my Navman froze up.
Needless to say that they have been resigned to the dustbin.
Pity Navman are so far behind the competition on this subject, amongst others. because the unit is a pukka size for carting around, which was what appealed to me when I bought it.

If I remember correctly (when helping a Navman user with the Postcode Files a long time ago), there is a limit of 65,000 POI in any one category. I believe that this left him with some 30 POI Files.
Not very useable. _________________ Richard

Does anyone know what else the update has?. i'd really like the ability to route around areas by typing the road name rather than drawing boxes on the map, just like our tom tom cousins.

Thing is, typing the roadname in can also lead to too much of a detour, as the amount of road to be avoided is preset and can't be adjusted by the user. _________________ Tim |

Tim, that’s a fair point, but sometimes I want to plan a route somewhere and for instance avoid the M62 as I know there are problems or roadwork’s, to do this by using avoid
areas boxes on the Navman would be nigh impossible. I’ve tried this by temporarily changing my preference to motorways and this works sometimes, but then avoids all motorways.
Its the only reason I would consider moving from my Navman to a tom tom unit, and in my opinion is definitely missing. |
