TomTom have quietly made the GO v5 upgrade available on their website. Go owners can download it here.

The new version includes lots of new features and improvements which we have covered in depth in our V5 review. Whilst the new application and many of the new features can be used on the TomTom GO, some features are only available for the new TomTom GO range (GO 300, GO 500, GO 700), for example, using the GO to make hands-free telephone calls.

Please read the upgrade instructions carefully and ensure your GO is connected to mains power before commencing the procedure.

It's a pity we won't have 7 digit Postcode navigation yet. We have to wait for the the TTG500 maps to be issued, apparently.'Crying or Very sad'

That's correct, the data is contained in a folder on the SD and you need the new maps to use the PostCode data. Won't be long now ;)

Thanks for the quiet notice about the upgrade Darren. Just completed seamless operation and all seems to be working fine, haven't had an opportunity to try it live yet, trip from Bristol to Portsmouth tomorrow should be a good time to try.

From alt.satellite.gps:

I downloaded and installed this whereupon my TTG told me that my maps had
not yet been activated - but it would not accept my old activation codes.
I rechecked with the TT web site that the old activation codes for my
device code and those product codes was still the same and indeed there
had been no changes. So I reverted to 4.42 and all is working yet again.

Has anyone managed to install 5.00 with working maps?

I noticed that the 5.0 download is not posted/available if you select U.S. English as the language on TomTom's website. It is available if U.K. English is selected. Does anyone know if there are any issues using this with a GO in the U.S.?

Well I must be thick or something, every time I try to upgrade to V5 it knocks it back to v4.20?

I have tried it (in the uk) with the US maps and found that it worked fine.

I suggest that you backup the SD card before trying to upgrade so that you can revert to the earlier version easily.

Thanks Mike. Will the unit talk "American" or is it proper English only?

I only tried it with Tim, but it should work with the other voices in the same way that 4.42 did.

As the Tom Tom Go and Palm versions were previously aligned at version 4.40 with a common TT Navigation engine, does anyone know if am I right in presuming that the version 5 upgrade can also be applied by Palm v 4.40 users ?
