|
|
Hi Everyone,
Using the same system, but with different gps software, does the COM port change.
I am using a Medion 95000 (mio168 clone) with Navigon 4.2, and the gps is shown as on:
Type of receiver - standard GPS
COM-Port - COM1: Serial Cable on SP2:
Baud - 4800 - this is greyed out
I ask this because I often see other posts where people are using a mio168, tomtom 3 and say that they are using COM2
Thought that the COM port would be the same ? |

Physical port assignments wouldn't change on a PocketPC. On the Mio168 COM1 is the Sync Port on the bottom, COM2 is the built-in GPS.

That is confusing, SP2: is another way of saying COM2 so i'm not clear what Navigon are saying there, is it COM1 or SP2 _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hello Darren,
This is how it looks
Note that COM2 shows no connection to the receiver, in the drop down menu, COM2 reads COM2: Serial Cable on COM1
Oh well, thought I would ask, but this seems confusing. |

Mitac Mio 168's always have their flip-up antenna on COM2. Period. The only reason this will change is if you've installed a GPS driver that has assigned/inserted or re-mapped a COM port.
I haven't tried Navigon on a Mio 168, but I suspect this is what is happening. |

So the answer to my original question is YES.
With a hard reset and nothing loaded to the PDA, then looking at the GPS settings screen I just noticed this, GPS port is set to COM1 on a Medion, however they do that then.
I presume that Medion must do this via the firmware they include on the PDA when setting them up. |
