Has anyone compared CP5 against Navigon software, if so what are the findings? Reason for asking is that I am not getting on very well with CP5, mainly I suspect because I think I have a dodgy install disk. The program never installs the same twice. I would like to hear of an alternative?
Any help please. |

The programs have pretty much the same functionality.
CoPilot has a locked User Interface, with emphasis on navigation and route planning. There are some config options, but most of the functionality has to be accepted as is. Funtional flow is mildly intuitive. Some type-ahead and memorizing of previous choices is implemented.
There's a choice between TTS (saying street names) and WAV files. As you have noticed, CP5 installation is still a bit messy (all the WAV files are saved into the \windows directory)
The Navigon UI can be re-configured to just about any appearance. There are skin editors available, voice editors, even map unpack tools. Controls can be rearranged on the screen, or hidden completely. Functions can be switched on and off. Navigon is using a huge number of wave files (more than 430) but doesn't say street names. I found the Navigon UI to be quite a bit less intuitive - it requires about two weeks of learning (and accepting). Some functions require far more taps than their equivalent on CoPilot. Type-Ahead is missing, leaving you in the dark on search results until you hit the enter key. Install is clean, the program works happily off storage cards. Startup is inexplicably slow, operation is also notably slower that CP.
It's not an easy decision though - best would be if you could test Navigon for a while to see if it fits you better. _________________ Lutz
