Are we going to see that from Mapopolis soon? Most others use it already. I think would be the dealmaker for many people.

It's been a discussion item on the Mapopolis forums for ages.
One of the advantages of Mapopolis is that it is incredibly fast. The fear is that this advantage would go away with a 3D rendering engine...
Mapopolis may eventually cave in and deliver a 3D mode so they can say "Me too" . I'm just not sure it will benefit them.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I like the archaic 2D mode. And when you adjust the color schemes to the one that TomTom uses then the Mapopolis maps look really cool, actually. _________________ Lutz

Tools >Settings > Map Colors
Normal = Day
Map background is yellow-ish
Street is grey
Street fill is white
Major Road is dark red
Major Road fill is red
Of course you can alos use your own color scheme. _________________ Lutz

I have just purchased Mapopolis and it does have the 3d view. I have to say that I prefer the 2D as I find the 3D a bit confusing on a small screen.
A word of praise for Lemar and the team in Manopolis Support. I have had real problems using my Palm T with the Fortuna GPS receiver and have turned to Mapopolis (as well as Fortua) for help.
I have to say that over a weekend we exchanged numerous emails which in an effort to sort the problem which in fact is probably down to the receiver and they were superb.
Well done! :D |

You can't find it because it's not there. Mapopolis currently does not have a 3D view in the Pocket PC version. (and I hope never will). Dinky uses the Palm version. _________________ Lutz

I just graduated from Mapopolis to TOM TOM Navigator 5. Its is 100 times better and accurate than Mapopolis. Teiered of wrong route calculation and horrible POI search in Mapopolis.
One night at arounf past midnight after travelling several 100+ miles just before reaching my home it made me navigate several miles on a lonely stretch of road to find that it enede in a bioreserve with a road closed board in front of me. I had to go all the way back and still it persisted to take the same road over and over again. Similarly ............ huh
Check it out ! |

For what it's worth, I'm with Lutz on this one. There are a few things on my personal wishlist for the next version of Mapopolis (separate proximity alerts for different POI categories, more control over routing to avoid small back roads even if they have 60mph limits, more prominence for road numbers over road names, maybe even full postcode lookup) as well as a few other minor tweaks, but I (personally) don't see a particular benefit with the 3D view.
What I really like about Mapopolis is that they listen to their customers , which makes me reasonably confident (assuming I'm not the only one that wants them) that my wishlist may get included in a future version.
Cheers
